Converting or using CO miles

I have not flown on CO in years and have 7000+ miles left on my account. I need help in figuring out options I have either using or converting the miles.

I am aware that I can use the CO miles to get magazine subscriptions. As far as converting the miles, I have accounts with UA (preferred), NW, and AA. I assume this is done mostly with the hotel reward programs? Since I am not familiar with the hotel programs, a referral to a thread where I can get more information would be appreciated.

Thank you, in advance, for your kind help.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, West End Flyer!

To expand upon UpgradeMe's recommendations, I suggest you take a look at the following thread:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/009175.html

This thread discusses moving CO miles to Amtrak and then to UA, mile for mile for mile. Although some have discussed that their transfers took over two months and required further inquiry, mine took less than 2 weeks.

As mentioned on another thread, I converted my CO miles into the Amtrak program. I had 10k orphaned miles, and was happy to get anything out of them. I got $100 worth of Home Depot and Olive Garden/Red Lobster gift card. And while only .01 per mile, it's better than letting them expire.

Thank you, UpgradeMe, Flying Buccaneer, and Jaimito Cartero. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Jaimito, getting gift cards from Amtrak sounds like a great idea rather than converting the points over to UA. Thanks!

Only the September transfer CO-AMTRAK-UA took exactly 8 weeks. Nowadays it works if you are lucky in 5 days- maximum 2 weeks.
Cheers,
silver
