CO 99

I've noticed today as well as a date last week this flight operated EWR-SEA-HKG. Anyone know the reason why. ie: winds etc. Why not a fuel stop in ANC?
I spend my time on the AC forum. There has been a dispute between Canada and Russia over use of each others airspace. Could this be part of the reason? Thanks for your help.

I was just in the HKG Air Traffic Center a few days back and did not notice anything out of the ordinary for CO98/99 EWR-HKG.

I don't know about last week's occurence, but today's (Oct. 31st) landing in SEA was caused by the closure of the polar routes due to recent solar flare activity.

The flight was stopping over in SEA due the solar flares. This made it impossible to fly the route over the polar cap. A 777 captain explained it to me, but I won't try repeating it. As of today(11/1), 99 was scheduled to make its original non-stop routing.
