One concern which I hope won't be a problem.....

I fly into EWR's Terminal A on a Thursday at 2:05PM and depart Terminal C at 2:50PM. I will have all boarding passes prior to the flight, and have no luggage other than a small duffle bag if that. I do have CO Gold Elite, so I can utilize any security elite lines if available.

Any experience on that tight of a connection between terminals, assuming all flights are operating ontime?

It's hypothetically possible, but I would strongly advise against it. Since your departing flight closes at T-15 minutes, you only have 30 minutes to hop on the monorail, go two terminals down, and deal with some of the most "dedicated" TSA staff in America. And of course, this all assumes that there is no delay on the inbound.

If at all possible, I'd suggest either lengthening your connection, or going through IAH/CLE.

Adding to what avek said, once you clear security, you're at the front of Terminal C. You may still have quite a distance to walk.

I would only risk it if you have a backup plan (i.e., there's another flight after your 2:50 in case you miss it).

It's def tight if your inbound isn't right on time. Should be a quick trip to get from A-gate onto the monorail, but you may have a long walk in C once you're past security.

Speaking of, with all the capacity reductions, surely they don't need the A gates anymore! Wonder why they don't move them back. At least the way they talk, they won't be back to full capacity for years, if ever.

Well, it is already booked. It's part of a MR, PHX EWR ORD EWR TPA IAH PHX. I know that it will be the same airplane EWR ORD EWR, so I will be with that plane at all times. I intially land in Terminal C, have to go to A, then back to C. But my layover once I arrive EWR is 2 hrs 30 min, so that's not a problem, it's the 45 minutes going back to C. How long of a hike is it from A to C?

I guess if I really miss the TPA flight, I could always get a EWR IAH PHX routing, but that would reduce my mileage unfortunately. Maybe I will get a cool ticket agent that can get me some other cool city, like EWR to XXX to IAH to PHX.

In case you are wondering, there was no mention of the terminal switches until I already booked the ticket.

can you standby for the early flight 9the one before you are ticketed) to EWR. That way you would have plenty of extra time if there are weather/ground hold, or atc delays.

As a frequent EWR flyer, I'd say you have a 80% chance of not catching your connection.

With a bad monorails and decent security lines ..and flights that seem to arrive a tad late to the gate ...and outbound flights that close their doors too early... the time gods just aren't operating in your favor. I'd say nearly a full hour is minimum safe connecting time between A and C. But eh, at least you won't have any bags to worry about.

If you can take an earlier flight in, do it.

It's the redeye to EWR, and first morning to ORD, and then back to EWR to make the 50 min. connection to TPA...

Well I know how you feel I have a 70 minute connection AMS-EWR-LAS and I am VERY concerned, but CO reservations confirmed it is legal and should be OK

there's no way you'll make your connection AMS-EWR-LAS in 70 minutes. I had a 90 minute or so connection MAD-EWR-BNA and walked out of customs as my flight to Nashville was taking off. I got to spend an additional 5 hours in EWR.... not fun

What's legal and what's pratical are two different things. Also, if you're not a U.S. Citizen, you may have a longer wait thru customs.

I once had CO reservations book me CDG-IAH-SFO with only 60 minutes in IAH, saying that was "legal." I knew it wasn't practical (even as a U.S. citizen), and I only accepted it knowing there was a backup IAH-SFO an hour later. The issue was moot since I got bumped in CDG and rerouted with a healthier connection and a $500 cert.

Well I am pretty confident about the AMS-EWR-LAS 70 minute connection since the customs should be in Terminal C. The last 3 times it took all but 12-18 minutes from deplanig to beeing in the C concourse.
A lot of times when they take of on time we have been 30-40 minutes EARLY since the timetable is so padded.
If all goes wrong, there is a later flight to LAS too.

I've been on this flight, and it arrived about 30 minutes early. Others I've talked to have stated the same.

Same experience here. It is the EWR ORD EWR flight that is of concern....
