NW Codeshare...NEVER AGAIN

NW Codeshare...NEVER AGAIN

SO I'm flying to BWI and back from MCI tomorrow. I am MCI-DTW-CLE-BWI in the morning and BWI-CLE-MCI in the evening. I took the NW codeshare via DTW to save a few bucks...NEVER AGAIN.

I went to OLCI today and couldn't so I called the CO Elite line. The lady told me record was out of sync and she'd find out why and correct it. She's asks me if I tried to use miles to upgrade my flight. I told her no, but NWA had UG'ed me the night before due to my status. She said that's impossible that Slivers would get UG'ed tonight. I tried to let her know she was wrong, but she just told me she fixed it and she then assigned my exit row seats as I asked. She told me to talk to NWA about the upgrade.

I then checked my itin online and saw she had moved me from FC back to coach on the NW flight. I called NWA to remedy the problem as I was told to, and they said that they could do nothing as the upgrade was done by the computer. The NWA rep proceeded to tell me they always have problems with CO (which I thought wasn't very tasteful) and then in a round about way said the CO rep was an idiot. She told me to call CO and have them sort it out, and if I had any trouble to have them call NWA.

So I call CO back and ask to speak to a supervisor. The lady on the line asks me what's wrong and she ends up fixing it for me...after quite a bit of sorting things out...lol. I call NWA back and get moved to 1A and think everything is sorted out...WRONG. When I go back to CO.com and check my reservation the NWA segment is no showing ZERO mileage...lol. I called the CO Elite desk one more time and after quite a bit of explaining, he took care of it.

Long story short...I'LL NEVER FLY ON A CODESHARE AGAIN. I'm sticking to CO metal from now on...lol. If I for some reason have to fly NWA I'm flying the whole trip with them.

The problem here is you were using the wrong web site to check in, you always check in with the carrier for your first segment, in this case you should have used nwa.com

I agree with the nwa agent (and you that they shouldn't have shared their personal view with you) that the co agent did more harm than good....nwa is known to process upgrades much further out than stated in the elite handbook (which is a good thing) and the co agent shouldn't have touched it

I was only attempting to check in on CO because I wanted to snag exit ro seats on my CO flights. I can't select seats for CO flights on NWA check in.

The only issue that I have ever experienced with NW is within the correct format of my complicated name so that it would sync and have my elite status recognized by the database. One trip it took 4 reissues before it worked. (I use my first initial and am "the third", so my name data can get real screwy).

I'm still trying to figure this one out....

NW processed my upgrade early.

CO screwed it up.

Therefore I'll never fly NW again!


(Since I am WorldPerks elite I guess that is one more seat in FC for me. ^ )

I can't think of a flawless codeshare relationship. When you really think about it, the ability to upgrade on Continental/Northwest and the many perks that are allowed on both carrier for both carrier's elites is a really good deal (for the most part).

The amazing thing is, even with the drop in upgrades on CO...I still get upgraded quite often on CO out of MCI as a Silver.

Also, the point wasn't to bash NW...just to basically say from now on when it comes to routings I'm going to "Keep It Simple Stupid." If I need the NWA routing I'll book it with them.

The other wierd thing was that I kept getting a CO Elite desk in Salt Lake City. I've never talked to anyone out of Sal Lake before...found that odd.

This is a little off topic, However I have my 1st CO codeshare on a NWA ticket. I received my EUA's on the NW legs last night for LAN-DTW-IAH, but the CO leg IAH-AUS has not come through. Does this happen automatically, and can I change the seats, once assigned, in the NW website or do I need to contact an agent?

I might be a bit early as I am 5 days out and CO may not have run the EUA yet, but your opinions are always appreciated.

Sounds like the only problem was that you did OLCI on CO's website instead of NW. If you had checked in on the NW site, wouldn't have been a problem. Next time, since you have ur NW passes from checking in on NW's website, just head on over to the CO desk at the airport and tell them your return is on the same day on CO and you would like exit row seating, shouldn't be a problem.

The CO agent putting you back to coach was ridiculous though.. and unacceptable as Ive heard that some NW silvers get EUA 2 days prior to departure as do some CO silvers who fly on NW, but then again the CO agents are probably only in the know about what goes on on CO.

... or that Dealing with a Y to F situation was a hassle, so I'll just happily stick with the Y seats on RJs.........

HMizzle, don't give up--- you'll get the hang of the system. And re. upgrades on NW segs before CO, that's far more common than we'd like.

I once experienced a weird problem with OLCI for a mixture of NW and CO flights (NW E-ticket). The itinerary was BWI-MSP-EWR on NW and EWR-FLL on CO. I got upgraded on all segments four days before departure. However, on the day before departure, no matter how hard I tried to do OLCI to save NW some penny, nwa.com just refused to let me do it. nwa.com online support could not figure out why; the elite line told me it might be due to the fact I got upgraded on the CO segment. The weird thing was, I could not check in using kiosk, either; plus that the NW agents at both BWI and MSP could not give me boarding pass for EWR-FLL because they told me CO controlled my EWR-FLL. Finally when I arrived at EWR, I asked for the BP again at CO counter. The agent told me it was paper ticket. I then got completely confused and told her what happened. She then called some supervisor, after spending about 10 minutes, she finally solved this problem for me.

I have booked an award trip to Brazil (outbound on NW and DL, return on CO and NW) which has some odd things, too. This ticket was issued by NW as E-ticket; however, when I looked at my itinerary at continental.com, it states that this is a paper ticket. Also, on delta.com, it says one of the segments IAH-EWR booked in G class on CO is first class but both nwa.com and continental.com says it is coach class (the whole trip is booked in coach class). To me, there is some miscommunication between NW, CO and DL which needs to be fixed. I haven't bothered to call NW or CO about this. Does anybody here have some clue?

UA vs NW - same thing happened to me when flying on a mixed NW/CO itinerary in January 05. I got upgraded on all segments, but could not print my boarding pass at home (thought I was SSSSS'ed). I asked for help at the airport, got the usual "why don't you check in yourself with this nifty machine we have here?," explained my problem, and finally got my tickets after the agent pressed a whole bunch of keystrokes. Might be some sort of a bug when flying CO and NW on the same ticket...
