Update to my advance exit row assigned seat on my return flight of today.

Checked in at the airport just now and found a last minute equipment change from an MD-80 to a 737.

The system had automatically reassigned me an exit row aisle on the new equipment (from 21C to 14C), which was very nice and not something United's system would do (except by pure luck).

Well, I'm not so sure I got enhanced.

I don't think the exit row on this 737 had much additional legroom vs. the rest of the cabin (exception being the window seat at row 14 of course, as it has tons of legroom).

Certainly was nowhere near the legroom of the aisle exit row of the MD-80 I flew on earlier in the week. And the seat itself was much more comfortable on the MD-80 than this 737, IMHO.

But...we had an entertainment system and movie on this 3 hour flight, so I finally got to use my previously purchased headphones a second time!

Now...what gives with that meatball sandwich thing? I've never seen so many pax handing back food to the FAs in my life. Another pax warned me.

I should have listened. Yeech!

you're right about this. i think it is documented in the bible: www.seatguru.com.

check out the Continental Boeing 737-700 (aka 73G).

Wow -- you did good. Last equipment change I experienced was a 757 --> 737 which caused me to lose my EUA. I had to exchange my F boarding pass which was already issued for one in Y.

What happened to channa is the reason that one should always immediately change a seat on a 757 if it is row 5 or 6 to a seat in the first 3-4 rows (despite what the seatguru says about row 6). If there is an equipment change, you are generally out of luck with an EUA'd seat in the last two rows.
This is especially galling when the last minute switch is to a 757 with international configuration where you not only lose being upfront, you also lose the promotion to the BF seat.

From the America West website:

"Exit Row Advance Seat Assignments Now Available for Elite Members
As a benefit to our most frequent flyers, America West reserves premium window and aisle seats exclusively for our FlightFund Elite members. To further enhance this benefit, we now make exit row seating available for assignment at the time of ticketing."

No further comment necessary!

Is exit row seating restricted?

I called three times on 12/3/02, and was told that they no longer have access to assign elites to exit rows.

The few times I have not been upgraded, I've always had an exit row and an empty seat next to me. Sometimes I feel guilty about how good Continental is.
