...and can see why some at the "do" get so upset when they don't get the "bigger seat"! Frankly, with some of these Z fares, it can be a bit more difficult to watch the wasitline on board... |
I was recently on a flight where the guy across the aisle from me had a broken seat. Instead of breaking him up from his companion, the FA chose to upgrade them both to FB. I confess I was envious while they couldn't believe their luck! Hey, once in a while everybody deserves to have things go 'their' way - and in this case it sounds like the pax did the right thing in buying 2 tix and the FA did the right thing by not calling attention to his situation (and possibly their seat assignment screw-up ;) )

Two tickets, one upgrade?
Actually; I would have thought that the upgraded person was more entitled to the upgrade than anybody else in coach, as he had actually bought two tickets, and thus paid two fares, whereas everybody else had just bought one ticket. Did he get two upgraded seats, or just one?
|
I can't see how you can fault the CO staff in this case (and you know how I like to pick on CO), the gate agent probably was just looking at the seating chart without seeing which seats were open or no-show, or late connecting passengers.
I'm sure that the FA's and gate agents have all too much experience with dealing with obese passengers who are too cheap to buy two seats. I think moving the pax up front was a no-brainer. |
i say it was none of rapopoda'a beeswax (spelling?). rapopoda should have bigger fish to fry than worry about who gets upgraded and who doesn't.

spending the amount of time i do in airports and in first class, most elite flyers aren't exactly poster children for the "after" pose of a Slim Fast advertisement. the food in airports is brutal and it's tough to work out when "free" time is spent going to and from the absolute worst places on earth (i.e., airports). <<tangent>>that's why i don't understand why unmanned hotel gyms close. it's one of the great mysteries of travel. it's not like during the day there is staff in these gyms...so why close them at night. is it that much of a hardship to have the security guard stop by once an hour (which is all that happens during the day)? |

How did this cause you a problem? |

Curious as to why you think an obese person "gorges", while another person simply "cleans his plate". Please explain, and while you're at it, why you have decided it's your business to take inventory and pass judgement on other people's behavior. I'm skinny, and if I clean my plate, I'm not gorging myself. My body processes that many calories. If one is obese, then they simply need fewer calories. So, if they clean their plate, they may be over-eating. |

Too true! :D Going back to the topic, I give kudos to the FA for making a proactive decision. ^ Other than CALflyboi, I don't see anyone else on here qualified to know what went into the decision on whom to upgrade, so all this speculating is, quite frankly, a waste of time. Sorry you didn't agree with the decision, but tough. Had the flight pulled back from the gate late, we'd have had to listen to a bunch of moaning about that, too. I certainly hope you're not going to ask for some sort of compensation for this... |

Did the Concierge do the up grade, Having a freind as a Concierge I was told that once the door is closed the Crew should not be upgrading unless an emergency. You should write co as she said she had received many emails from elite BF pax who had this happen during flight, they sat the person next to them. |
We anxiously await your responses, Rapopoda

A lot of good points were made. Nothing to add, mate? |
OK. What if it were Siamese twins joined at the hip? Let's say they bought two coach seats but the seats were in a row where the armrests don't retract. No other coach seats together are available. Where do they sit? To confuse matters, one of the twins is Platinum and the other is not even an Elite (think about that one for a minute). And what if the FA's sister is married to the uncle of the twins stepdaughters nephew who lives down the street from the pilot? NOW where do they sit?
