This is the Continental "Star" or Co-star or CO * program. Do a search in this forum for any of these terms.
In summary, it's a classification for CO customers who, corporate feels, contribute significantly to the bottom line of the airline. It is independent of OnePass status level.
As one flight attendant mentioned "these are the people who actually PAY for the plane!"

CO* (continental stars) are a high revenue subset of passengers that CO tracks for database marketing purposes. This is an internal program that seems to be fairly difficult to define the qualifications, but LK did acknowledge it during his Q&A session. It has also been noted that CO*s receive additional attention and courtesies, but since I am not one I can not confirm or deny it.
Try to sneak a peek at the manifest next time you are on board and waiting for the WC. They seem to be hiding it more since the program was revealed on this forum, but it is seemingly the only way to know if you have been deemed a CO*.

Did a search for CO*. However, I suspect that * is a wildcard as the queries always timed out

If you are in an airport where they scan the boarding passes, when they scan your pass the Co* will pop up in a window on the ticket scanner's screen.
There's a delay from when they scan and when it pops up, but if you can linger you can see it.

Additional "perks"
Well from what I heard from the above-mentioned flight attendant, CO employees are encouraged to use CO*'s names whenever possible. Otherwise I don't know if there are any additional benefits. I've been CO* for a little over a year and haven't seen much difference.

There was a post from a former CO Gray Coat a couple of months back, that stated that when he allocated BF international operational upgrades, he allocated them by, full fare, CO * status, and finally Plat status. The theory is: What have you done for CO today, whathave you done recently, and what are you doing over the long haul. Whether was his own list or a company list was not stated.

I was told by a FA about a year ago on flight from IAH to LAX that I was a CO*. I bought my ticket last minute after upgrades had happened and was forced to sit in the back of the plane. The FA greeted me at the door of the plane, walked me to my seat, and gave me a free pair of ear-conforming headphones. I assume that this was a CO* amenity. Though my status has not changed since that time, I have not received similar service on trips where I was not upgraded.

Is this designation as CO* only found on boarding passes? Being from GUM, I highly doubt that I would be a CO*, but just wondered if there was a way for someone to find out other than a boarding pass. When did this start?

And, yes, the CO star designation has (maybe that has since changed) shown up on passenger boarding passes.
