Help with an expiring tkt

OK, a friend just called and told me he has a tkt that he cancelled around a year ago that has to be taken care of by 4/26. He hasnt the foggest idea when and where he wants to go. Is there any way for him to be able to extend that tkting date of 4/26.

Also the $100 change fee is that a fee that must be paid or will CO deduct it from the value of the tkt he paid for, eg- he had a tkt that he paid $450 so it will now be $350 minus the $100 change fee?

If he gets another non-refundable tkt for less than the value of the tkt does he get a new voucher for the difference and by when must that be used up?

The only thing off the top of my head was to tell him maybe you can find a fully refundable fare at the amount of your cancelled tkt and then simply cancel that out and you should I THINK be able to get some more time until you have to book that new one. Is this true?

Since I never had this problem I have no experience with it so Im turning to FT for the best way for him to handle this, any suggestions?? Besides telling him to make up his mind where and when he wants to go somewhere.

The change fee must be paid regardless of any residual value on the ticket, it's considered a different fee and therefore can't be taken fromt he ticket price. There is no way of extending the ticket that I know of, but perhaps someone on here maybe of further assitence. I believe you will get back the left over value is any from the reticketing in the for of a travel voucher; thats how I ended up with a like 36.14 travel voucher one time, good for one year from date of issue.

So wait, if he wants he can buy the cheapest ticket possible, and use the expring ticket and then get the left over value in a voucher good for up to one year more?

Good luck!

Your friend should buy a refundable ticket a year from now to anywhere. He'll have a year to change his ticket at no cost to go somewhere he really wants to go. Or, he can cancel in a year and will have an additional year to use the credit.

$100.00 change fee upfront. Buy a refundable ticket if he can find one for that price. Check different markets. Sometimes refundable can be in N, K, H, or even lower classes. He'll have to do his homework or find an agent that would be willing to help him do some research. Even if he bought a one way refundable!
