when is the best time of year to request comp status?

Hi all, thanks for your advice in advance! I'm thinking about asking for comp status on CO for my dad, who will probably start flying with them now that they have the EWR-PEK nonstops, instead of through ORD with UA.

Do you have any ideas on what time of year it would be best to ask CO for comp status? Ie. if i ask in a certain month before the end of the year, will the comp only last that year? or when should I ask so the comp be extended to the next whole year?

Thanks!

The last few months of the year are not a good idea; they'll flat out say no. Now is a good time, as it seems Continntal is even offering challenges as target offers. What status is he lookingto comp? usually golds/silvers are easier to get if you are coming with a smiliar status from another airline. Otherwise they may offer him a challenge - i.e Fly X trip get Y Status.
Call the OnePass Service Center, they'd be happy to help you.
