IAD is usually out of the question for me. I live in the distict and the cab ride is $50 each way or a super long metro to bus ride. I work downtown so nothing beats DCA it's a quick 15 minute hop by cab and sometimes duirng rush hour I take the metro. BWI is also quite a hassle. We are a one car family because I commute to work via metro so no need for two car payments, etc.

I have actually switched to NW. All big planes with 16FC. I sometimes don't get the UG out of DCA especially on Friday eve but a quick hop to DTW and then its usually 100% UG from there.

There were some bugs in the system this weekend I believe -- Going to MFE tomorrow through IAH - outboud both segments cleared at 5 day mark - coming back on Wednesday and the MFE-IAH cleared today - IAH-DFW will probably clear in a few minutes - both flights were wide open coach and first. Also - my mileage from Thursday MIA-IAH-DFW did not post until after 6 pm today -- 2 days later than usual. Me suspects they had system issues this past weekend...

Maybe upgrading the Commodore 64 to an Apple Lisa would solve these EUA woooes... ^

I suspect you're right about that. I was very surprised not to get my EWR-UIO EUA at the five-day mark. A 24-seat FC was half empty, and since we had the only occupied exit seats I figured I might be the only Plat in the back. EWR-SFO is one thing, but how many last minute FC seats are sold to Quito? Well, I got my upgrade tonight, and I think the companion upgrade will be a slam-dunk Thursday.

The system is definitely screwed up. I checked at 5:55AM for my upgrades tomorrow at 6:00 AM PHL-IAH-OAK. Still in "V" class.

Went to check in at 6:00 AM exactly. Got to the point "Would you like to Upgrade if a seat is available" Checked Yes. System bombed out and said unable to complete check in. Please see an agent at the airport for assistance. :(
Went back to my reservation to now see both segments say "R". but no seats assigned.

IMO, anyone travelling in the near future shoud be certain to check in at the 24 hour mark, or be prepared to ride in coach.

No magical email in my box this morning and only 27 hours out from the flight.

Something seems to be up.

I've noticed that EUA sometimes "halts" and stop running at the designated times if there was an error occurred during processing, and anyone who hasn't been upgraded before the error won't have a shot till at the gate. Has happened to me a few times...

Then again, whats happening now could just be rev. management holding out hope for selling more last minute F seats.

No EUA on first flight this weekend with 9 out of 16 FC seats still unassigned. Got the EUA on first leg of return trip with more than half the seats already occupied. No EUA on final leg of return trip with only 3 of 16 FC assigned.

Maybe rebooting the EUA machine would help? :)

It might be that simple :)

My PHL-IAH flight tomorrow at 6 AM that has been showing 1 of 14 FC seats occupied now shows 6/14 occupied. THe connection on to OAK that was showing 4/18 now shows 16/18 occupied. Either CO ran EUA at the 24 hour mark and cleared everything up, or people using OLCI scooped up a ton of FC seats.

My return on Friday has not shown any movement, still only 2/14 occupied FC seats on both OAK-IAH and IAH-DTW.

Actually, I plan on setting my alarm clock on Thursday in San Francisco for 6:15 AM again to be SEQ #1 on check in and I fully expect to get upgraded on those flights at that time.
The game has apparently changed (temporarily) and one needs to go with the flow :).

I always pack a gun for the battlefield...

About 40% of my ug's were in the field. That was under the old rules and I am not sure how my luck will change under the new ones. Keep in mind, a 'L' Plat who does not get upgraded means that NO high fare (save Y) golds or silvers got upgraded. Everyone here - and I'd also bet at CO as well - can see the larger problem when 'riff-raffs' don't get upgraded.

I find this element of the process untenable in an age of computerization and technology.

I'll bet the EUA machine runs on a desktop under Mark B's desk. When he hears the riff-raff plats on the CO flyertalk board are complaining again he goes over and gives it a swift kick. :D
