? about overnighting at LAX
I have a MR on Continental planned for 4-12 coming back on 4-13. My flight from IAH arrives at LAX around 10:50pm and my flight out of LAX leaves the following morning at 7:00am. I have never flown through the LAX terminal...would you suggest a hotel or just hanging out in the terminal? Looks like the PC closes at 1:00am and opens at 5:00am. Just trying to figure out if a hotel is worth the 4 to 5 hours of sleep I'll get in it.
Thanks,
Matt

The terminal CO is in at LAX is a rather small non-distinct terminal with minimal services at best and probably none during the hours you will be there.
This makes it somewhat more appealing and secure to sleep in, if you ask me. There is also an open air terrace for smokers - so you can sit outside and get air (don't know if it's open overnight though).
If you decide otherwise there is a Holiday Inn on the corner of Century and the 405. Stay away from the Crowne Plaza!!!

There are tons of cheap hotels in the area that can be had for about $50-60 per night. I stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn last fall on a MR and it cost me $45 for the night. Not much to do around the hotel...it's a bit out of the way, but it served its purpose.

I agree - find a cheap hotel to lay your head for a couple hours and take a hot shower. LAX has a huge amount of hotels nearby so why not take advantage of them?

Quality Inn on Century Blvd is only around $55 with shuttle. 2 miles from LAX.

If you decide to go to the Hotel route, make sure you ask for a room with a view of the runway. There are some GREAT LAX views to he had, unless you really stay at a dump...

The Doubletree is pretty decent, I stayed there a couple of weeks ago. When I got bumped a couple of weeks ago, they put me in the Crowne Plaza, which seemed to be okay. I may have gotten an upgrade though.
I also got a $42 or so Priceline hotel for later this month when I'm doing a semi-MR LAX-EWR-LIM. I think at the Radisson.

there are a couple of Best Westerns they can run around $65 and you get 250 miles if you join Gold Crowne Club . They shuttles not sure if 24 hr, I stayed at them yea they're dumps but got the hot shower and a few hrs of sleep
i found that the low rates from yester year are just that, the rates have gone thru the roof at most places.Ex The 4 Pts was always around $59 now youd be lucky to get $95.
Also check out Roomsaver.com there are usually a few counpons for the LAX area, call 1st to make sure they have a shuttle, those counpons are walk in Only

Seems to me that if you have the disposible income to make a mileage run, spending $120 for a hotel room is not the biggest deal.
If it is, I might recommend a lovely hostel.

For an alternative view ....

Seems like a lot of the seats at LAX gates don't have arms so you can stretch out and you could take a shower at the IAH PC the next morning ....

You could ask the CO staff at check-in area for a "distressed passenger certificate".
I have gotten these in the past simply by asking. Its a simple photocopied sheet for area hotels offering lower rates for passengers who get stuck. This happens when the passenger can't fly due to no fault of the airline (I.E. drunk-denied boarding/weather/ATC problems).
It's not gonna be a free hotel stay but it should be in essence the same cost as airline people pay. I got the 4 points Sheraton once for $45 bucks.
Worth a try.

The Radisson has good runway views no matter which side your room is. You can also easily walk from Terminal 1 to the Radisson. Other terminals aren't that much further.

About the hotel, there's not much around it, but you won't need anything anyway. It's very clean. The rooms are nice and spacious. They have a free shuttle to/from the airport(I always tip the driver a few bucks). There is a part of this hotel called the "University". This is where they test out new concepts and products. If you're lucky or HH elite you'll score one of these rooms. Did I mention that the rooms are clean?
Head over to the Hilton forum if you need more info.
