Bumped up a level?
This has been addressed somewhat in several threads here, i.e. flyers qualifying for a higher level (for 2002) than their elite miles would indicate. Has anyone figured out the "common ground" under which this is done?
For example, my wife has been Platinum for two years. Last year, she flew 38,400 miles (no flights during the double-elite miles promotion). She got a cheery e-mail from OP saying "WELCOME TO SILVER ELITE!!" That did not make a good impression, I must say. (She did not expect to be offered Gold; it was just the 'tone' of the note that was done poorly).
But MY question is -- why are some people bumped up a level, and others are not???

ZIP -- I'm with you on the "tone" of this down-grading e-mail from OP and the fact that I am being "welcomed" to lower elite status; my salutation even started with "CONGRATULATIONS!!" Huh?

i think AA only downgrades one level a year. so, if you are exec. plat. the worst you will be the next year is plat. does CO do the same thing? i thought it did but apparently not.

Don't kill the messenger... I don't think that have any sub-routines running comparing current vs. new status and adjusting the e-mail.
What exactly do you want it do say? "Here you go dip$hit, fly more often and you won't have this problem."
Everyone gets the same message... I bet folks that were comped get the same thing. As part of by comped HP Platinum status, I was able to get comped to Hyatt Platinum. I don't recall ever staying at a Hyatt, but I got a nice letter thanking me for my continued patronage... yada yada yada.
Typically people outside hub markets get more perks than folks near a hub. It is a good "business decision", but alienates people like me that live near hubs. It sends a clear message that CO does not value my business as much as a guy on ORD.
But this is the airline industry and that is the nature of the beast... same reason that I get all of those "fantastic" promos from DL and UA.

Hey Zip -
You live too close to a CO dominated city (i.e. hub) to qualify for the bump. Friend of mine that lives in Copley just had a similar thing happen (gold to silver). He'd asked once for an extension and was turned down, but given a UA 1P comp in the meantime. So he just sent off another request, this time with a copy of the letter from UA welcoming him to 1P status. We'll see what happens.

My first exterience with Elite status on Continental was an unsolicited comp to Silver Elite status. (Second tier at the time)
I had only taken two trips on CO during the previous year, one to Europe, the other to Ecuador from TUS.
