If you sit in 1B on a DC10 or 777, you'll see the FA "greeter" checking badges for employees that want to enter the cockpit and fly jumpseat.

I don't think you even need to be an airline employee to have jump seat qualification. Whether an airline would allow a qualified non-employee to ride jump seat is another issue entirely.

Yesterday, I too just got my EUA without a seat assignment. When I called CO, I was told there were problems in the system--she thought due to the bad weather Houston has been having, but this was not any indication of either no seats left, or the future of EUA's. I was readily given my favorite seat of 1A (CLT-EWR), and told, that there were only 2 other passengers so far in first on that flight.

ClassicalGal,
I hope you have a nice long flight in which to enjoy sitting in first class--maybe cross country. That experience is usually terrific.

I got upgraded on both outbound and return, IAH-LGA. I had to call in both times to get a seat assignment, since it didn't show up in either e-mail. That was OK, I got to pick the seat I wanted.

Congrats.
I wonder how long this has been an issue for. I've been either using reward upgrades or traveling on CO Express as of late, so I haven't had an EUA for about a month. I'm expecting one in a couple of days, so we'll see.
