New Silver

Tomorrow afternoon I'll hit my mile requirement for silver this year. Aiming for gold...

Will I be able to start working the system by Friday? Since flights post rather quickly, I wouldn't think there would be any delay in my status upg?

I think so. I faced the same thing on Christmas Day when my flight LAX-EWR would make me silver and I asked to be upgraded in advance, they would not but told me that my "silverness" would show up in the system almost immediately (24-48 hours) and it did. Welcome to CO elite!

codystyle, welcome to FT and the CO forum.

From the OnePass website:

"You always receive the highest status for which you qualify. As you qualify for a higher level, your Elite status is immediately upgraded. Benefits are effective the day after attaining a new Elite status."

Been a while since I moved up a level, but I seem to remember qualifying on an outbound and having the higher level show up on the return.

CO grants status 24 hours after the flight segment where you met the mileage requirement. When I first qualified for Silver on the first leg, I did not get the Elite mileage bonus on the second leg, but I did on a flight a few days later.

A flight taken Tuesday should post by Friday if it's on CO metal. However, sometimes they are slow to post...go figure!

If the flight hasn't posted by Friday, show up at the airport, explain that the critical miles haven't posted yet, show them your last mileage statement and your boarding pass from Tuesday's flight...and beg...very politely! If the counter agent says no, then ask the President's Club agent and/or the gate agent. That worked for me, but there are no guarantees. All of this assumes, of course, that there are upgrades available.

Two hours prior to flight time, seat assignments are transferred from reservations to airport control. And the airport agents have far more discretion with seat assignments than reservation agents.

Again, if you don't like the answer the first agent gives you, ask someone else!
