Fare Codes for Y class upgrades?

Hi all,

I'm a CO Gold elite and will be purchasing a Y class fare next week from EFD-IAH-EWR then returning EWR-IAH-EFD.

On my outbound segment, the two flights I'm interested in show in ITN:

Continental Airlines 1791 Boeing 737-500 6:00 Houston, TX (IAH) 10:20 Newark, NJ (EWR) A9 D0 F0 Y9 H9 K9 B9 V9 Q9 T9

Continental Airlines 206 Boeing 737-500 9:40
Houston, TX (IAH) 14:17 Newark, NJ (EWR) A8 D8 F7 Y9 H9 K9 B9 V9 Q9 T9

Now my question is this: Which fare class do Gold and Platinum Y confirmable upgrades come from? A or F?? The first flight shows F0 and the second shows F7...which one am I better off buying the Y fare for?

Thanks to all the FT'ers...sorry if this has been covered before. I did a search and did not find anything.

The FC seats available for upgrade are listed as "F". "A" are full fare FC seats. Yield management eventually starts moving A seats to F as flight time gets closer.

Also, when there are nine or more seats available in a given bucket, ITN will only show "9". Apparently, this is the same as what the rez agents see.

You should be able to upgrade immediately on the 9:40AM. I'm pretty sure of this, however I am former Platinum who's been demoted to silver.

Full Y fares are eligible for upgrades which will be taken from the A seats. The F seats on ITN are for upgrades on discounted fares (non-Y fares). Therefore you should be able to upgrade immediately on both legs.
