Silverware in BF
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this. I've been flying continental for several year now, and was pleased at first to get back the real "silverware" in businessfirst for my meals. However, over the past few months I've also gotten a dirty utensil. When flying domestically 1 out of the 4 pieces always has a previous meal still stuck on, which I find disturbing and always request another utensil from the flight attendant.
I'm wondering if this has just been my bad luck or has anyone else noticed this. I'm thinking that perhaps Continental should go back to plastic if it's cheaper then "cleaning" the silverware as the plastic wear is by far more hygenic to begin with.
Thoughts?

Just an FYI: I was involved in the plastics industry for years and I can assure you that there is nothing hygienic about the service-ware packs that contain plastic utensils. There is still a high degree of human interaction during assembly and they are not concerned about food service issues.
Good Luck!

yep, same here, always at least one piece of silverware not thoroughly cleaned. Occasionally, I still see a plastic knife, guess it depends on the airport.

I've never had any dirty silverware, but my problem is they give you so many forks and knives which seems to me to be excessive.

I have had similar issues domestically and internationally. While I am sure all of us expect 100% quality control in the cleaning process, the fact of the matter is that something is going to slip through and make it to your tray. This is compounded by the fact that the FAs do not see or check the utensils prior to distribution.
Now dont get me started about a FA who gave me a dirty look when asked to replace a nasty knife I got on a flight to HNL last year....

Most is Dirty
I would say that everytime silverware is offered to me on CO, at least one piece if not more is dirty. Maybe they should use dishwasher detergent?

I guess I've been lucky.. I've never had a single piece of silverware dirty. And I do agree that getting 3 forks and 3 knives for the final fruit "light snack" or breakfast is silly.

The silverware does make subtle statement in making CO a nicer flying experience.
