Widebody transcon
It looks like CO will be flying 767-200 EWR-SFO and EWR-LAX once a day each way. Hopefully this will be permanent.

It starts sometime this summer. I don't have the exact date.
The 767-200 is very nice and offers a little more room in coach (32 in.) than standard CO coach.
I agree long overdue.

Paraphrasing William Shatner's famous Princeline quote: This is gonna be big, really big!
Now lets play Who Wants to Fly Like a Millionaire?
When flying roundtrip for 6.5 hours each way from EWR-LAX or EWR-SFO, the most comfortable plane in any class is:
A) a Continental single aisle 737-800.
B) a Continental single aisle domestic 757-200.
C) a brand new Continental widebody 767 with BusinessFirst seating.
D) any America West plane connecting in at least two cities.
Hmmm. Let me think about it for a while. The 767 with BusinessFirst seating sounds like the right answer. This is such tough choice Regis, can I use a lifeline and ask the (flyertalk) audience?
Looks like EWR-SFO 767 flights begin on May 2 and EWR-LAX 767 flights take off on Aug 1. It is about time. Thank you Continental.

I am fortunate enough to be booked on CO154 in F early in the summer, which when I booked, was originally a 757. I am already anticipating the dreaded (un)scheduled aircraft change
.
In the meantime, thank you CO.

Great job, CO is listening to us. Now they just need to take off those 757s on TransAtlantic flights. What a nightmare. Those narrow body planes should only be used for flights less than 4 hours.

WorldBanker, I totally agree. I forgot to mention that also. The 757 EWR-AMS is horrible, I could not take it anymore.

What's the source of this information? I couldn't verify it anywhere.

worldbanker,
unfortunately 757 on long haul routes are here for the long haul! (sorry). People would rather fly the 757 nonstop on routes like CLE-LGW and EWR-LIM for example than to make a connection involving a widebody.

Just because it is in the reservation system does not mean that this will actually happen.
A couple of years ago, CO had EWR-LAS in the res system about 6 months in advance with DC-10's. I booked these flights so that I could sit in B/F. By the time I actually went to Vegas, the flights were on 757's.

I admit up front this is pure speculation on my part, but isn't it possible that CO is just temporarily running the 76's on those routes as they often do when bringing new equipment into the fleet.
Just recently, when taking delivery of the first 764, it was put on an EWR-MCO route for a few weeks.
Right now, there is one 762 going back and forth between IAH and EWR, which I believe is the first one they took delivery of. Those same IAH-EWR flights (78 up, 63 back) early in March will (according to COOL) use a 764. Those same 2 flights in early April will use a DC10 (again according to COOL). Bringing the new planes in on domestic runs then rotating them out to the Europe routes they announced they would use them on?
Again, just pure speculation on my part, but....I've seen them do it in the past.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see them use the 762 on transcons, but I'm not getting my hopes up yet.
Mike
