Someone needs to tweak the yield management computer...

Tomorrow I'm taking CO 1148 ATL-EWR. Up until a couple of days ago the ITN display looked something like this:

A7 D7 F0 Y9 H9 K0 B0 V0 Q0 T0

Flight 1148 now displays the following info:
A8 D8 F0 Y9 H9 K9 B9 V9 Q9 T8!

Given that we're talking about the day before Thanksgiving, I think the yield management computer went bonkers on this one. How could the flight be so empty??? And this is not simply a one-flight fluke. Most of CO's other ATL-EWR flights are just as empty. DL, on the other hand, is virtually sold out for tomorrow on the same route.

Guess I can forget about playing the bumping game tomorrow...

Be careful,The yield management computer will hear you talking!!!
In all serious, because of the thanksgiving holiday, the computer is probably holding those seats. If someone gets bumped on another airline, maybe they have to buy a CO ticket. Or the other airline might have to put them on CO, and pay CO. Who knows?

I am on CO 1142 ATL-EWR on Thu morning and it is booked 1/146 when I last checked with my contact at CO. I will ask him to check the actual PBTs on this flight too, just for curiosity.

B747-437B,

I'd love to know what the PBTs look like for 1148. I'd appreciate it if you would drop me an e-mail or post it to the thread.

Cigarman,

I doubt that CO would hold SO MANY seats for the mere possibility of bumps from other carriers. I suspect that a flaw in the YM department/computer was more to blame.

According to my source, 1148 of Nov. 22 is showing 4/92 with a capacity of 12/112

B747-437B:

My brothers are on 1142 Thurs am. If you see a George & Lenny pair in seats 12D&E, stop and say hi to them.

You need a ride? I'm driving them to Bergen County...

Thanks for the offer, but this is merely the first leg of a 10-segment, 8165 mile, 40 hr, mileage run! Ideally, I can start the day off with a bump since the flight is way overbooked.

If I do make the flight, I am supposed to be in 6C (albeit hoping for EUA to deliver me to the promised land). I'm the olive complexioned guy carrying the black rollaboard with Northwest and Air India tags on it (can't be many of those around), so stop me and say hi!

Yikes! I'd say have fun, but...

I'll look for you at the gate. I'll be the sleepy annoyed woman muttering dire imprecations about gate changes. (I've done the Thanksgiving pickup run before!)

You want me to bring you a turkey sandwich?

It's a holiday week, and the real "road warriors" are staying home. The plane is probably full of non-regulars who have booked whatever they could buy cheap. With no "briefcases", there is nobody to pay full fare, so those seats are still there. What is left probably has either lower elite status, or none at all, and therefore can't upgrade in advance. It really underscores what makes up the base passenger group, and how much of the freight the business traveler actually pays. Without them, this is what you have.

avek00, I fly IAH to LAX the day before the democratic conventic. All 12 FC seats were held until day of. Exactly one person rode in first...me. I really think the holiday is part of the mix. I never had 12 seats empty the day before with no upgrades available.

Yield management has positively confused me now.

CO 1142 of 11/23 has been showing Y0 across the board for the last 2 weeks. I verified the loads were 1/146.

This morning, they released a chunk of Y seats so that we now have Y9. Meanwhile, the actual PBT is upto 2/149.

Does CO really believe that there will be 20+ no shows on Thanksgiving morning? Or are they hedging that the full Y fare ($710) is worth more than the compensation paid to the bumped pax?
