Use OP or WP?
Hello,
I fly out of IAH out of the time, and everytime I have been using NW WorldPerks because I want to rack up miles to get a free tkt or upgrade for the Asian destinations. Now, however, I am having second thoughts, NW does not have a segment program like CO, and this is a big deal because I fly alot but all short-medium hauls. Should I be start using OP? Plus, when I fly back to Asia I can use OP to rack up on CO's miles. right?
replies are appreciated!

If you fly lots of segments, you're better off earning the miles in Onepass not Worldperks.
As for earning miles and bonuses, they are the same in either program.
So you can earn miles on either when you fly either airline.

Boomer is correct on mileage/segment stuff.
The other issue is Elite. If you can make an Elite level, you'll get upgraded on the short/medium flights. A Silver in IAH may have some issues, but it is better than nothing!
A CO elite trying for an Elite upgrade on NW will have less luck and vice-versa.
I honestly don't know about mileage upgrades, because I understood that NW was changing upgrade seat availability. I don't know if they changed the rules too.

Careful!!!! The advice you have been given is very correct...HOWEVER you said the major word..."international". PLEASE I BEG YOU do a search on international upgrades in this forum. As you will see if your goal is travel to asia CO might be very wrong for you. Domestic great, International=root canal without gas (to get an upgrade.)Its not the product it's getting in the seat. Enough before i owe myself a dollar!

Thanks for your replies,
My father flies to CN all of the time, and he sometimes uses miles for upgrade, i think it is 25,000 Miles to get upgrades. I don't know about if you are a OP elite can you have the same 25,000 mile upgrade, if you do, then i'll use OP because i do fly them alot and Segments do help for me to get to an Elite level easily. For instance, I flew to MEM from IAH 3 times this year already and it counts as a 500 mile thing.

Jon:
My experience as a Onepass platinum is that it is most easy to get upgrades on NW.
In fact it seems that its easier on many routes to get a NW upgrade than on CO. This is because on their smaller planes they NW has more FC seats.
CO's 757 and larger planes have nice size FC sections. The 737's are small FC cabins.

afang - I notice you posted this after I responded to your message in the NW forum so I assume you didn't read the thread that I referenced. NW doesn't do mid-year upgrades for segments but they DO issue elite status annually based on segment traffic.
The other problem that you should remember is that the programs keep changing. I don't know if you are an elite currently on NW but if so, CO won't comp you and you'll have to start over from scratch. Also, if you have miles collected on NW you can't combine them with CO miles for travel. Think carefully before you switch -- you may not gain very much and end up a year later on programs that are quite different from when started, with non-combinable miles split across two programs.

Well first, thanks for your replies,
Secondly, I am about 10k short of becoming silver with NW. And i have only 500 Miles on CO that is when I sign up with them hehe.
It is near Sept now, I don't know how much I'll be flying and i don't know if i do fly, if I'll reach to that level.
Decisions...desicsions...
