Missing Baggage Compensation?

We recently flew from EWR-FRA w/a connection to Olympic airlines to Athens. Continental took off from EWR over 2 hours late. Still made the connection but the bags didn't. Olympic said that they wait 24 hours until the compensate but since the problem seemed to be Continentals all around that I should speak w/them. What do you think?

Pick up the phone and give them a the details. CO has always been good with mishandled baggage IMHO.

I have even received a apology letter when my bag didn't get pulled in time when I volunteered to give my seat up. Which is expected since trying to find one bag on a 762 at the last minute probably isn't going to be too easy.

The last airline you flew on regardless of who messed up the baggage handling is the one responsible for your baggage. Doesn't mean the airline might not ask for repayment from the other, that I don't know. I've had this problem a number of times involving connections between CO/NW and more often CO/KLM.
