Fare Class Question

If I fly in V class on a NW coded flight on KLM metal, can I expect to get 100% EQM with OnePass (since the flight is on KLM metal), or only 50% EQM (because of the NW flight number)?

According to Continental's website, V class on NW-operated flights only earns 50% EQM, while the same class earns 100% EQM on KLM-operated flights. Unfortunately, they don't give any info on the situation where it's KLM metal but a NW flight number.

Any help would be appreciated...

Since you have a NW ticket and a NW flight number the NW rules apply.

try to buy the same ticket on KLM rather than on NW.

i just dont understand the "metal" theory. if you fly CO (with a CO flt #)but on NW metal, its NOT the same as flying CO (ie, no 100% eqms, etc), but if you fly NW (with a NW flt #) on KL metal, it IS the same as flying NW (ie, no 100% eqms, etc).

how is that possible? i think they make the "metal" rules up as to try and screw the FF'er as much as possible.

I disagree. I think the KLM rules would apply since it's KLM-operated.

http://www.continental.com/onepass/e.../northwest.asp -- this applies to " All Northwest- and Northwest Airlink (Pinnacle Air and Mesaba Airlines)-operated flights" so this this is not applicable.

Whereas,

http://www.continental.com/onepass/earn/airline/klm.asp -- this appiles to "All KLM-, KLMcityhopper-, KLMuk- and KLMexcel-operated flights systemwide"

In fact, I don't think they know how it's ticketed -- NW, KL, or even CO -- when it posts. Generally codeshares post with the operating filght's code and number, regardless of how it was bought.

To be safe, though, if you can buy this as a KLM-coded itin (you may be able to do this with a NW phone agent), I would do that.

You are correct -- the rules are quite confusing and are seemingly inconsistent. CO would tell you that these are the result of the conflicting aspects of the various aspects of their program, but you the customer should not have to understand that. They really do need to simplify this.

I agree with Channa: you are on KLM, so KLM rules apply. Look at it this way: At the completion of the flight (if/when your miles don't post correctly, you'll have to mail in your boarding pass, right? Your boarding pass will say KLM on it, since they are the operators, which means they'll issue it. The boarding pass will most likely have the fare class on it. Soooooooo, when you mail it in to the OPSC, the poor slob sitting at the desk will see a piece of paper with KLM on it, your name on it, the booking class on it. They won't have a clue that it was purchased as a NW ticket! ^

You will also have to send in a copy of your ticket..............
The airline that SOLD the ticket has to pay for the miles.....so NW will have to pay.....KLM does not care how much NW pays.....
