KLM S Class issue with OP

I just wrote this letter to Larry Kellner. It pretty much explains my issue. Let me know if I'm crazy or if this is a valid point and I should be rewarded miles. Thanks!

Dear Larry,

As a CO Platinum member, *******, I've just run across an issue that I'd appreciate if you would clarify/address. As an avid FlyerTalk member, I'm told that you and your office fix these kind of issues.

I'm booked tomorrow (Friday 4/9/2004) on KL Fl. 427 AMS - DXB. I'm returning to AMS on KL 428 on Sunday 4/11/2004. There are no Business class seats left, so I will be traveling in Economy. It is KL's policy that if a traveler is staying less than 4 days, then the ticket can only be booked in S class. There are no other fare class options to choose from. On the OnePass website, it shows that S class is not eligible for mileage accrual. I understand that the goal for CO is to reward travelers paying higher fare classes and would be happy to pay more than I am paying - which is $1244 Euros - clearly not a discounted ticket. In fact, I am purchasing the ticket today - the day before the flight.

Since I have no choice but to fly in S, it is clearly not a discounted ticket, and business class is sold out, it seems to me that I should get credit for these 7 hour flights in the back of the bus so to speak. It would seem odd to penalize me for simply making a short full fare trip as opposed to a 4 day or more full fare trip, right?

Many thanks Larry - I look forward to hearing from you. I can be reached at the numbers below or by email.

Not enough info to comment on your sanity, but I have to believe the lack of an S class on the CO.com chart for KLM is merely an oversight.

I'd have to agree with the second poster - it should be an oversight.

We all know how WorldPerks and OnePass programs are different, but this is what Northwest offers from KLM:

Elite Qualifying Fare Classes:
Elite Qualifying Miles at 150%: P, F, J, C, Z, S, B
Elite Qualifying Miles at 100%: M, H, Q, V, L, T, K
Elite Qualifying Segments: P, F, J, C, Z, S, M, B

I'd also imagine that S accrues 150% on Continental. It's interesting to note, however, that at Continental, 'B' class only earns 100% EQM.

I don't think we should be writing to the soon-to-be CEO of Continental about every little problem we have. Larry has shown a willingless to listen to his flyers but he is not a customer service agent and my feeling is that if we keep emailing him regarding our individual problems, he'll start tuning us out. Perhaps you should consider trying to work this out with OnePass before seeking the CEO's intervention.

S is KLM's Y. It must just be an oversight.

Well - he got back to me just to say someone was looking into it within 20 minutes of writing the email. So he's far from glazing over with all of our complaints. I already tried dealing with OP agents - the person i first spoke with and her supervisor.

Will let you know what they come back with. Happy to hear that it looks like just an oversite from you all!
