Is this what flying UA is going to be like next year? We have to monitor the process, build our case that there was a problem, then email a company spokesperson to get an override?

Perhaps Joshua can give us some more details before jumping to conclusions. Most of the posts in the last week or two in this thread have been about upgrades clearing, not glitches.
I've experienced (and been the victim of) EUA issues as far back as 8 years ago, and as recently as less than a month ago. CO simply doesn't seem to have a handle on this from a technology perspective. |

I'm not that concerned about the posts in the past week or two, as over the years, EUA hiccups have been repeated problems with CO. Even if they fix today's issue, with their track record, they're likely to break it again.

And since CO provides no visibility into the process, customers and agents have no way to identify said issues and work through them. I hope that with all the UA flyers using the CO systems next year it will put more pressure on them to fix their change management procedures or whatever the root cause is behind these repeated failures. |

Interesting choice of words and perspective on this...might explain why you seem to have so many issues with CO and not quite as much....luck...getting EUAd...
Not sure I understand the focus is on word choice. I could have said I got shafted by CO yet again, but it's the same point. EUA didn't work against my ticket. Had it worked as it's supposed to, I would have ridden in First. I didn't. That, along with the other documented problems over the years is why I proposed the website, so it can certify that we're at or inside the window, with R space open, and if you're still in Y, you can go after CO. If anything, this would be a very solutions-oriented approach to mitigating the damage caused by CO's flaky technology. |

Hi folks, it's T-6 for CO 1025 on 16-Dec, departing 9:10 PM CLE-SAN, the seasonal non-stop between my two main travel destinations.
Inventory as of tonight (6:20 PM Houston time): F/JN/A/ZN/P/PN/R/RN/Y/YN/B/M/E/U/H/HN/Q/V/W/S/T/L/K/G/N/XN/X9, IN/I2 Seat map: Total/occupied/unoccupied F seats: 16/3/13 ELR seats: 18/12/6 (including me) Elite reserved seats: 36/14/22 General seating: 90/90/0 (it's a popular flight with kettles!) No upgrade for this CO Plat yet. I decided to ring the elite desk yesterday shortly after midnight Eastern time and the agent said it should be upgraded any moment now. |
In my single PNR with 3 segments on CO same day, only one of it got EUA automatically at the correct window (T-3day for me as gold). The rest of the two segs I can see RN=7 and 5 respectively, does it metter if I call to report this problem? Seems from previous reports, it's impossible to get manual elite upgrade right :o

The topic is not EUA rates, rather it's whether EUA is working and related anomalies. But since you brought it up, 95% is probably a pretty skewed perspective, though DEN is not a terribly difficult upgrade city for a business market.

Back in my days as a US CP in 2001, I never really thought about upgrades. I was just always upgraded at the window. If I wanted a different seat, I called in the day of the upgrade window and picked my seat. Same goes for being a UA 1P after the start of UDU. |

Well, that's sort of my point...if you feel like you continually get shafted by CO, why in the world would you continue to stay with them?

channa, well said. I don't like having to babysit my flights to make sure EUA isn't magically not working for some reason on one of my trips, and with the way CO handles inventory, if I don't get it taken care of before 24-48 hours before departure, ALL of the F cabin inventory will be gone!

If I wanted a different seat, I called in the day of the upgrade window and picked my seat. Same goes for being a UA 1P after the start of UDU. Exactly. And if CO offered some sort of visibility into the EUA process to its customers and agents, a lot of these things could be mitigated. For example, DL moved me in a schedule change from a single-cabin RJ to a two-cabin RJ. I did not see the Upgrade: Requested notation on that segment, and I alerted DL. They requested it, and it never became a problem (upgrade cleared at the window). Their design allows you to catch this sort of problem before it's a problem. Same goes for UA's architecture with Upgrade: Pending and Upgrade: Waitlisted. If you don't see Pending, there's a problem you need to address. If you're inside your window and you're still Pending, then there's a problem to address. Now I understand that with CO's disjointed systems, that level of integration may not be possible. But there's no reason they can't notate the record and make it visible to customers that EUA swept the record in some sort of log. Maybe if they had a link in your record to click called "View Upgrade Processing History" or something like that, it could show you a log of each time the record was swept. Then if it's x hours inside your window and nothing even swept it, then it would be clear that there's a problem, and that would give CO agents the authorization to manually upgrade if there's space. Right now the way they're doing it makes it a black box, and that exacerbates their issues. |

Please stop calling and asking agents to override the automatic system. That's not their job or their responsibility and probably leads to more problems than it solves.
I disagree. At a minimum, it helps put it on the radar of the agents and that will raise awareness to the underlying problem, which is that the system has issues and we have no visibility into the black box. |
