Expressjet

Let me say that I have had nothing but great experiences on them but was wondering if anyone has the same feeling as I do.

Everytime I get on a ERJ, I always get freaked out by how young most of the pilots are. Anyone notice the same thing?

By and large, they do have some young pilots flying the ERJ-145s at ExpressJet. That is to be expected, I think, as XJ is a regional. They appear to me to be a well trained, professional bunch.

And ExpressJet usually does a great job getting me where I need to go.

However, ExpressJet is being merged into wholly-owned SkyWest subsidiary ASA, so we shall see what the future holds......

I also find ExpressJet is a great airline, and never really had a problem with it in the 13 years that I have been flying it from my home town in Texas.

But, yes I have noticed the pilots are generally young (though I have seen an older pilot deadheading it once), but that doesn't really worry me, as there hasn't been many incidents, and I've never had any problems.

And this concerns me. I've completely sworn off of DL (ASA) out of AEX even non-stop to ATL. I'll fly CO instead. Twice ASA has cancelled a flight to ATL from AEX only minutes after the CO flight left, stranding a couple of dozen travellers each time who could have connected through IAH with CO if given the chance since capacity was available. I was on both flights that were cancelled. My work colleagues have similar stories with ASA out of AEX.

Coincidence?

Interesting.....I try to stay off of ASA out of LFT as well as we have similar horror stories here. In fact, I'll take AA Eagle to DFW instead of ASA nonstop to ATL if I'm not flying on my first choice, being ExpressJet LFT-IAH, with regard to connecting service.

I think the lack of competition engendered by the SkyWest/ASA/ExpressJet combination will continue to make life interesting for those of us who live in and travel from smaller cities that do not have mainline service......

With starting pay at $25,000/year it's tough to attract higher time pilots. Just the current dynamics of the industry. Sad, but true.

I feel safe in express jet. It is colgan and their Saabs that worry me. After last weeks flight I might decide to drive to TYR from Dallas instead of flying directly into TYR
