Help please
Here is the issue I bought 2 tickets for my brother in law to be, to come to our destination wedding in Puerto Vallarta. It was important for my bride to be to have her brother there to walk her down the aisle(her father died of cancer 2 years ago). He told us a week before the wedding that he also couldn't afford hotel room, we we're on a budget so I could't pay for that too, so I cancelled his tickets. My bride was crushed her sister walked her down the aisle. I don't want my $ back, just a name change on the tickets so we can use for our honeymoon, I am willing to pay fees or whatever to change names. Do we have a shot with Continental? I Have called already and they said there is nothing they would do! Any advice? Please! Thanks in advance.

No name changes are allowed per the 1 experience I had with a typo. Luckily, it was a minor typo, but indeed and again, no name changes are the rule.

Sorry to hear about the misfortunes in your post. But, congratulations on your marriage!
No name changes are allowed.
Not sure what the value of the ticket is, but what you should do is the following:
Book a one-way in-Texas flight (i.e. IAH-AUS or vice-versa), which is almost always available for $48 all-in on a 14-day advance under his name. He can be a "no-show" for this flight. Upon booking this over the phone, the agent will charge you the $48+150 change fee, and the balance of the ticket will be given to you in a travel certificate. Ask the agent for the pin # so you do not have to wait for it to come in the mail. You can apply a TC to the purchase of a ticket for you/your wife/anyone.
Presto!

Thank U
The value of the tickets was around $1000. Should I book two tickets in his and his wives name, From a phone operator for that short flight? then when they no show call back for the pin? Sorry I am a little confused I am new at this.

It helps because it frees up some of the $$ currently locked for use on ticket with name of BIL & wife. In the scenario described above, the OP would be out $300 in change fees ($150 per pax; have to pay with new money, can not use value from the existing unused fare) plus whatever cheap fare he could find, would get back residual value in a form not restricted to a named pax. Example: if he finds a fare that is $50 per, he would pay $300 in new money, use $100 of the value of the canceled rez's, would get back $900 in credit for future use (within the next year, IIRC.)
