Proactive increase to Platinum?

I am gold with 57K EQM. I am on a flight to asia that will give me 20K EQM. Thus, after the trip I will have be Platinum.

Is it possible to get boosted to Platinum ahead of my itinerary? The big reason I booked on Continental vs. Emirates (which was cheaper) was for the EQMs. So it would be nice to get the perks of platinums since that is what I am going for.

My departing fare (M fare) has a platinum elite upgrade fare. So I'm not currently getting it (as I am gold). This isn't too big a deal to me since its the first 3hrs on a 50hr round-trip journey done in Economy and I have exit row seats.. its the return part where being gold is solid... I am more weary after a 15hr flight from Asia in economy.. it would be great to have good shot for upgrades at that time (return fare isn't M fare either, I think it is H).

Continental has boosted me in past to silver when I was 2K miles short of silver with 2-3 flights booked coming up. Being 18K short with 20K miles ahead of you isn't theoretically different.. but 18K short is a bigger number than 2K...

Any advice? ^

Thanks

If I read your post correctly, I wouldn't count on it. If your miles post, THEN you may get the Plat UG fare. But not before, I'm afraid. Do you have miles to use? You can always UG that way IF seats are open. Good Luck!

Please refer to the FAQ. We have discussed this many times over.
The short answer is yes, CO will bump you to your next elite level if you have bought a non-refundable fare that will put you over the treshold. The Key is to call OPSC (not the elite line!).

However, I'm pretty sure everybody's story is about a couple K miles, maybe 4 or 5k at most. 18k is indeed a big number. But non-refundable is what it is, so I'd give it a shot anyway. Or numerous shots (hang up, call back).

Is the M fare on the TPAC flight? There are no complimentary EUA fares on any BF flight.

Other than the domestic part (which appears to be minor) Platinum does not offer anything over Gold for the international trip.

Still *A Gold for lounge access.
Still get 100% mileage bonus.
No upgrades on international.

You can call - but I see little benefit.

You might be able to buy up to B fare from your M fares at check in for the domestic segment. CO now calculates the first fare (or B fare for elite upgrade) for each segment individually when you check in.

Yup, I figured a shot in dark while blindfolded and spun 3 times. Never know though and wouldn't know unless I asked...

They definitely have bumped folks in past when its token and you have some flights coming up. I got the idea from someone else when I was silver, and they did it for me when I was silver.

I can use miles but it would only be on one segment of the trip. 40K miles + $300 fee I think it what I was quoted (would have been $250 for Mfare but return leg where I would use it was a Q or H).

Thank you for this. I searched the forums and read a few threads but didn't catch it in the FAQ. I have a refundable fare.. which I paid up $50 for! I was hesitant, but i figured $50 wasn't bad insurance on the high fare I ended up paying for a peak December flight in November. This fare cancellation expires in 12 hours so thank you very much for this tip and posting out of the FAQ.

No problem, thanks for following up with exact link to the FAQ.

FYI here is the original thread with more lengthy discussion including my own discovery of the process.

$50 for a refundable fare is indeed very good, now it's up to you whether saving $50 and getting upgraded on the domestic segment is worth making your fare non-refundable.

I think reality is I will have to take the 1st leg out, which will get me to 67k miles. And then ask again. At that point I will be on my journey + closer to 75K. Hopefully that I bought an M-fare with a plat upgrade available on the first leg can serve as an inducement.

Just in case, for the call tomorrow, I booked the same itinerary with the non-refundable fare.

I promise to make 2 phone calls tomorrow on this request and phone back..

p.s. I agree.. $50 is not lot. The main leg that scares me is the 15hr flight from India in economy via newark.. I never liked that leg.. I tried to route through Bangkok on Thai but became tough to do..

If you haven't earned Plat status yet, why do you think you should be granted it early ?

I still dont understand why the OP is looking for PLAT ahead of this trip and cannot see any big difference PLAT will bring above gold. If we were discussing silver to gold then that would be a different matter.
