I sometimes waitlist for upgrades. Not once in the last 2 years have I automatically cleared. I've always seen R availability and had to call the OPSC to have them manually place me into F.
Is there an upgrade script that runs at specific intervals which i always happen to beat to the punch? Lol What's the point of waitlisting if I don't clear immediately when R becomes available?

I "automatically" cleared BF mileage waitlists 1.5 years ago, but I believe I called CO to be manually put on the upgrade waitlist. Since then, I have put in for a few transcon mileage upgrades at the time of booking, none of which have automatically cleared.

For international mileage upgrades, any time I have cleared it has been automatic
On the domestic side, I only do it on transcons, and I haven't automatically cleared in years. Any time I do it's with a bit of insistence at the airport to ensure I'm properly on the upgrade standby list in light of my requested upgrade.

I cleared International BF waitlists automatically. Never called Elite line.

Is this standard
for CO (and likely the "new" UA)? On domestic trips, if WL's, you have to actually CALL in to get an UG processed if space is available? Ugh.

It really defeats the purpose of wait listing

I'm currently waitlisted for a couple of flights on Thursday. If I go through the CO homepage and try to set up reward travel for the flights and, upon clicking "View Seats" for the flight, there are seats up front available (and 50,000 SleazyPass is selectable), does this mean there is availability and I should be cleared into F, so I should give them a call?

I've upgraded to BF w/miles many times in past several years -- always happens upon request, automatically - never waitlisted even once. Of course, now that I've said that....

Whether you're talking int'l BF or domestic, I've not ever had to call.
Domestic EUA is automatic - most recently this week right at the 5 day mark.

I just got automatically cleared from the waitlist on my HKG-EWR segment last night.
The trip isn't for another six weeks.
That being said, I'm very concerned that the outbound segment hasn't waitlisted properly. I did it online, but it errored out. I went back into the reservation and it added a waitlisted segment, but the miles weren't deducted. A few calls to the OPSC later and the miles were taken out.
What concerns me is that I still have the option to upgrade the segment with miles online. Is this just a bug or is there something wrong with my reservation now?

when can i expect to hear about clearing a waitlist for a flight on the 12th? At the 24 hr mark? At the gate? I am confirmed in BF for the international portion of the flight, but the conncetion EWR-IAH is waitlist only. It has been that way since I upgraded back in August.
