EWR to MAD - Upgrade? Pointers?

EWR to MAD - Upgrade? Pointers?
I am planning a flight from EWR - MAD round trip for leisure. I have Gold status with continental and my companion has Silver (Million Miler though) - what are the chances of getting an upgrade on this flight?
Does anyone have any other general pointers for this flight?

You can request the upgrade by calling CO.
If one is available they will take 20,000 miles from each of you each way and a $$ copay that varies by class of ticket.
If the UG is not presently available, ask to be waitlisted.
I have only done MAD-EWR return one way, but both myself and dergon_gf were able to score UGs for it. Good luck!

I have flown EWR-MAD and MAD-EWR a few times this last couple of months. There always seems to have one or two empty seats up front. So, I could imagine scoring two seats should be pretty easy. Remember though, they are all 757-200. So, seats might be a little old if you don't get the new config BF. But you have the IEF. So, not too bad.
