Gordon Bethune, the CEO who took over then (and hired Smisek) made it a point to get all of the planes painted to one scheme within months, regardless of other priorities. From a financial perspective it appears irrational, but I suspect Smisek will take a similar approach to the dated grey scheme once the operations combine. That scheme has about as many years left on it as the Continental scheme. In other words, they'll have the same priority to get one one look -- whatever that look is. Where does CO paint their planes? UA uses ROW, VCV, and PUS. I think the new airline will go to many outside vendors like GLH to get a lot of the painting done. |

Not to be negative, because I am very excited about this merger, but it looks like the full-page pic on United.com is a bit of a hack job - I mean it's the kind of thing I would put together if I got a call at 11:00PM on Sunday night and was told to have a picture of a United/Continental aircraft on the website by 8:00AM Monday. Have a look...http://www.united.com before they replace it. OTOH, if this is what they go with, I hope it eases some of the concerns that CO staff and pax have about the new entity.
Edited to add: I've just read the complete merger announcement and I like what I have read about the ownership, branding and slogan "Let's Fly Together". Good Job Continental and United! |

I also hate the font. Most importantly, the loss of the tulip with the small speck of red is a major loss. :( There is no reason to have to combine the logos/livery. Add the gold stripe if you wish, but do not lose the tulip!!!!!! |
