Good - since we here at FT have worked out all the details for CO - all UA/CO has to do is read the forums.

There are about half a dozen or more threads discussing various parts of the merger. The pre-announcement announcement seems to warrant its own thread in my book. This is actually real news.

Death of a great airline. I'll miss you Continental.

Seriously, although I guess this answers my question about Continental flyers getting experience listening to Channel 9. In a roundabout way...

Larry planned to add channel 9 - but it did have a higher cost than expected, and CO is converting to DirectTV - what will UA do?

Is that because someone is going to blow them or jump off of one?

Don't get too depressed too quickly. Part of what UA is buying is a new management team, and one that is not loathed by its own unions. If you asked the UA board which airline has changed more recently with the partnership between the two airlines, I think they would vote unanimously that UA has changed more. From my view out the window, I'd have to agree with them. I'll miss the name, though to me, I can't help but think "Texas International" every once in a while (legacy Continental died in the 80s). The brand may go away, but I'm hoping that Gordon's foot soldiers carry on the good fight.

i just went through the NW/DL merger, not sure i will survive another just when i was getting accustomed to CO's way of doing things. *sigh* here is hoping it turns out much better than the NW/DL mess.

Indeed. The CO flyers are in for a ride. CO was the last bastion of a sane FF program and customer service experience. Where do you go now? AS? Not if you live in Texas.
