Codeshare Flight Ticketing Delay
I booked a ticket online last week, BOS-TPE at continental.com. The last segment of my flight, NRT-TPE was on their partner, JL. After paying with my credit card, I received an e-mail with this information
*This notification is being sent to you because one or more flight segments associated with the confirmation shown above is on a codeshare partner(s). This itinerary will remain in effect for 24 hours through Thu., Dec. 17, 2009. Once our codeshare partner accepts this reservation your fare will be guaranteed, your ticket will be issued with the form of payment authorized and a receipt will be sent to you.*
A few days later, I checked online to see that I didn't have any flight reservations and when I called, they said that they dropped the reservation because they couldn't confirm the ticket with JL. Is this typical? I assumed they would have contacted me if they couldn't confirm the reservation and had to cancel it. Has this happened to anyone else before?

JL is not a partner, but yeah, CO will drop it if there's no problem.
Do not rest until you're ticketed.
This can be a bit more challenging with CO since they don't instant-ticket their own flights, let alone codeshares, so you may have to stay on top of it if there's a problem.

This is nothing new, nor CO-specific. Unless the carriers have agreed otherwise by virtue of a bilateral agreement, an airline has 24 hours to accept or reject an interline booking. It sounds like JAL may have "rejected" your booking (IME, Asian legacy carriers tend to be the most prone to reject interline bookings).

hello channa & HeathrowGuy, thanks for the information in your response. I was able to book another ticket (actually, the price went down $200 so I'm lucky). Why would an interline booking show up as possible when purchasing a ticket if its later considered unavailable? Is there some delay to update the information in their systems?

Most of the time other carriers will accept or reject the booking in a matter of minutes.
If JL rejected it, CO shoud have contacted the OP.
