This is nothing new, nor CO-specific. Unless the carriers have agreed otherwise by virtue of a bilateral agreement, an airline has 24 hours to accept or reject an interline booking. It sounds like JAL may have "rejected" your booking (IME, Asian legacy carriers tend to be the most prone to reject interline bookings).
But don't they know this pretty quickly in most cases?
Most of the time other carriers will accept or reject the booking in a matter of minutes.
If JL rejected it, CO shoud have contacted the OP.
