DTW Gates Moving
Discussed what might happen to the CO gates in Concourse B at McNamarra Terminal with a couple GA's last week. They stated that they had been advised that CO would move to the new North Terminal in late Feb/early Mar 2010. At present, no PC or RCC at North. Bummer, but sort of expected. makes staying at the Westin overnite for 6 AM IAH flight difficult since the Westin will not have direct access to the North terminal. Hopefully we can get a couple more DTW-IAH flights on the schedule plus the return of better CLE connects.

There are reports on the UA forum that the Lufthansa lounge at DTW lets UA *Golds in, even on a domestic itinerary. Downside is that the lounge is only open for a few hours in the afternoon.

Of course that lounge would permit *Gs in; that is in line with the *A policies. As for whether CO is actually moving over there or not, CO Insider said "nothing in the works" or something similar a couple days ago.

The lack of a club is a real nuisance as I commute EWR-DTW and often end up waiting in DTW for EWR weather to clear.

There should be a new one in DTW now, given that Lufthansa has now moved out of the McNamera Terminal to the North Terminal. Lufthansa and Royal Jordanian moved to the North when it opened last year.

Last I looked at the situation in the new North terminal there were several open gates, and several more to be available next spring. If memory serves, and feel free to correct me if you know, but CO didn't have that many gates in B, but did have some more barbie gates in C. I don't know if North would have enough gates for both.
This info from an article published by the airport authority shortly after North opened. I have only been through North once since it opened.
While I get the divorce/new wife thing, on the other hand is there any pressure for a move? It's not like the new Delta North needs more hub capacity in the upper midwest.
The lack of a club for CO flyers will be evident since CO is no longer Skyteam. I don't know if there are any clubs in North at all -- clearly may be wrong feel free to correct.
Oh well, time will tell.
There are 8 unassigned gates @ North, with the possibility of adding 5 more, per the Airport Authority.

It only makes sense for CO to move to the North terminal. All other * partners are there and I would hope between them they could support a lounge which is needed there since SC's are no longer available.

Has anyone had to connect from McNamarra to North or vice versa? Is there a shuttle or something that keeps you inside the security zone (ie; no additional TSA rousting)? I've only flown NWA/CO since McNamarra opened so have no idea.

There is a curbside shuttle. As far as I know, that is the only way to connect between McNamara and North terminal. No transportation within the security zone exists. This is why CO will have to move at least some of its gates to North. It's just not feasible to make connections between McNamara and North.

The curbside shuttle between terminals departs every 10 minutes and is fairly regular. It also makes a stop at the Westin. Here's the map.
It's doubtful there will be much Star connecting traffic at DTW. The vast bulk of it will be O&D, so being in different terminals isn't much of an issue.
