There is a curbside shuttle. As far as I know, that is the only way to connect between McNamara and North terminal. No transportation within the security zone exists. This is why CO will have to move at least some of its gates to North. It's just not feasible to make connections between McNamara and North.
The curbside shuttle between terminals departs every 10 minutes and is fairly regular. It also makes a stop at the Westin. Here's the

It's doubtful there will be much Star connecting traffic at DTW. The vast bulk of it will be O&D, so being in different terminals isn't much of an issue.
