Seating at hawker centres is first come first served - no reservations possible. This is not a problem though, because unless you show up in the middle of the lunchtime rush hour, there are usually plenty of seats available. People also usually don't linger for very long after they have finished their meal, so even if you don't get seats right away, you won't have to wait for long.

They might make an issue of it during the mad lunchtime rush to refuel, but not in the evenings. Things are a lot quiter then. And if you keep buying more beer, as this group is likely to do anyway (at least judging from my previous DO experiences), they'll have no problem with you staying as long as you like.

It won't be. It's unusual, but by no means prohibited, nor will it cause a problem.

I would be very keen to do a local style hawker centre place for dinner on Sat evening somewhere to ensure I get my fill of sotong sambal, chilli crab etc.
There are many options though ... let me have a think over the weekend and make a proposal - but any input from our current SING resident FTers greatly appreciated (and saves having to dredge my memory).
Places such as Newton Circus or Maxwell Hawker centres are good fun read this
Expectantly (and somewhat hungrily) yours, TK

Also, any ideas yet about where in the Hawker Centre we could meet?

Personally, I would recommend meeting outside it, rather than in it. Where exactly is a good question though - I haven't been there in a long time, I don't remember the location all that well.

Is it just a big single room? If so, I am sure if we bring some FT tags it wont be that hard to spot us...

FT tags are a good idea, but basically, I would just look for a group of non-Asians. Chances are, that's us.

Not looking good for me at this point. I'm camp counselling at a camp for kiddos w/ disabilities the following week, and I absolutely HAVE to be there by the afternoon of the 30th....am just not finding flights that could work it....still trying, as it's clearly shaping up to be an awesome trip with a GREAT group of FTers to be sure, but it's not looking good at this point...

A plan so cunning .....
My plan was to provide some views over the weekend, but ended up spending 3 days driving (yep, driving) over more than 1,000 miles around north-east Thailand with the family ... all in a good cause.
Right, I think to keep things very simple for Sat night Hawker centre experience we need to depart as a group if possible, and the location needs to be relatively easy to find for other itinerants who turn up later.
I suggest the following:
Location: Maxwell Hawker centre (here and here)
Meet prior to departure at: Hotel Lobby - Lucky's ? (I haven't booked any accom for myself yet..)
Meeting Time at hotel lobby: 8.30 pm (Lucky and others will arrive SIN at around 7.00pm)
Transport to Maxwell: Taxi is probably best, depending on numbers
Latecomers. Independent travel to Maxwell Hawker Centre, between 8:45 and (..well, depends really) 9:30pm
Anyway, a starting plan is better than none. Lucky, if you know where you'll be staying - can you provide the hotel name so that we can use this as a meeting place?
Cheers, TK

Nice idea, Rod, but are you sure you are talking about the right night? We are getting in from BKK on Saturday night, but we were just changing the Sunday night venue altogether. Instead of doing Cafe Iguana we were just doing the Hawker Centre. Is that what you are talking about or are we talking about different things?
The idea, other than the times, sounds like it would work as well on Sunday, no?
BTW, ajthegreat, xj47, and I are staying at the Intercontinental.
