Hi all,
I am trying to plan a small DO in NYC for St Patricks Weekend - Fri 16th or Sat 17th March, and thought that possibly we could arrange another "Farewell to Cite" (TM Catman)
DO ?
What are the thoughts of the members here that can't make 9th - does either 16th or 17th March suit?
The other thread is here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=640724
Welcome your thoughts.

Long, long ago, Catman defined when a gathering becomes a Do.
It's a lot of fun to look at that 2002 thread, as so many of those posting still are active here. Well, at least one of their identities is.

SO in sum:
Gathering: 2-12 flyertalkers for a small event like dinner or drinks.
DO: 12 or more people meeting at one central place like a restaurant, with other events during the period of the DO.

My NY business is dry for the moment, so it doesn't look like I'd be around to attend either.

Well, someone should make the term Do official
FYI, I kinda agree with BJ here...

None of us ever knew what a DO was until the legendary CatmanDos took place. Just about all Flyertalk DOs were inspired by CatmanDos. You could say that Catman trailblazed this concept on Flyertalk.
Now before my fellow New Yorkers have a hissy fit
I'd like to say calm down boys.
It's all a matter of words anyway.
Since DOs have been around FT since the late 90's, no matter what your opinion of the term, it's been granted an easement in lawyer terms.
In medical terms it's like the doctor telling you to take a pill. Just swallow it.
As for the disagreement on the term DO, all I can say is tough knuggies.

I agree with Dan, of course, since he (and to a lesser extent, I) has been on FT long enough to remember the history, except that in Manhattan the word is "noogies". "Knuggies" must be the Brooklyn spelling.

I'm sorry I started the whole DO debate. What I should have done was end my little remark with a smiley face or something.
Before this thread gets shut down (would be a first for me...) lets just stick to those who can come and those who offer an alternate date.
JAP... please if you wish go ahead and plan another Cite dinner. I'm surprised other NYers haven't planned something. Just a suggestion: do you think the place would be packed on St Pat's Day? The 16th might work better.
If you haven't been to Cite... do give it a try. I'm going to be tehre at least once, possibly twice... maybe even a third time before it closes. It's going to be a little bittersweet for me.

Monsieur l'homme du chat:
You should know by now that we enjoy travelling down meaningless side threads and that often said smiley face is implied, even when not expressly used. The pointless debate over the definition of "do" originated not in Hoboken.
Bill Clinton will resolve this once he settles the meaning of "is".

To paraphrase Humphrey Bogart in some movie with Ingrid Bergman and Claude Raines: "We'll always have Cit".
By the way, I think it should be mandatory to speak French at this dinner. For those who don't, even badly, watch old Sid Caesar shows for instruction.
