Belgian Beer DO: Pasadena, CA - February 24th or 25th

I'm a regular at a local pub named Lucky Baldwin's. It's a British pub that serves Belgian beer. Lucky's boasts one of the largest Belgian beer selections in the United States. (The beer menu on the website is a little dated, but it'll give you an idea as to what they typically serve.)

This year's annual Belgian Beer festival is starting on Saturday, February 10th and runs through Sunday, February 25th. It's a great time! Although they always have an impressive selection of Belgians, they've got some even more unique beers at this time of year. I was thinking that this event would be a great reason to hold a DO!

So, if any of y'all out there are interested, I propose that I organize my first-ever Do around this occasion. I'm thinking of holding it on the weekend of February 24th, provided there are sufficient (positive!) responses to this proposal. (I can't make it the weekend of February 10th and I'll be in New Orleans, Louisiana, to celebrate Mardi Gras on the weekend of February 17th!)

If you're interested, please respond with a day and time preference. Saturday or Sunday? Afternoon or evening or late night? Lucky's is readily acessible from Metro's gold line; it's about a 5-minute walk from both the Memorial Park and Del Mar stations. If people can't get together on the dates, I propose, I suggest that y'all go there anyways. As, I said, it's a good time. And, being a regular, I will get my chance to enjoy the festival!

Just keep in mind that Belgian beers are pretty strong. ~7-10% alcohol by volume is typical and a few run up to ~13% or 14%! And, realize that this may ultimately ruin your appreciation for whatever bland beer you drink at your local pub!

I have been there and it is a great little place so I will join you. Either day is fine with me and I will be taking the blue, red, and gold lines to drink Belgium ales with you!

Bump, just in case there's anyone else out there who might be interested!

I can't make it that weekend I just moved from SFV to the area, off of Lake and Colorado. Do you ever hit that place up during the week?

I love that place! A wonderful place to drink, or be drunk. Alas, I think I am booked to be elsewhere that weekend, but I will probably be coming to Pasadena in early March; maybe we can meet up (Mrs. BNA_flyer commutes to Pasadena every week and I'm going to come crash at her place for some R&R after I finish my current gig).

Welcome to the neighborhood! ^ I moved here three years ago and love it!

I could easily do some other day (just not from the 16th through the 20th of February, as per my OP).

Only on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (and Saturdays). Of course, there's the occasional Sunday, Monday or Tuesday!

Lucky Baldwin's really is the place where just about everyone knows my name.

Early March might not be a bad idea! Unless there are more replies to my proposal, I may well propose we postpone this until then!

I'll post my itinerary here in the next day or two--the first weekend in March looks likely. My wife lives right in the neighborhood (thanks to a nice corporate apartment setup ) and we can probably amble over one evening for a drink or two. She's heard me run my mouth about FlyerTalk enough, she should finally meet some FTers. (She flies more than I do and has never posted here, go figure.)

My schedule just got busy so I am gone on 2/24, 3/03, & 3/10. Let me know if you want to meet up there for beers sometime as it is an easy trainride up there from Long Beach.

I was just there on Saturday to sample the first weekend of the fest. A great selection, as always.

FYI, a place near LAX that has a decent selection of (bottled) Belgian beers is the Sheraton Four Points LAX. They also do a beer tasting most months on the 3rd Friday (but not this month since a lot of the regulars will be up in SF for the Barleywine Fest)

Just those Saturdays, newself, or the entire weekend?

I'll be there in ~20 minutes!

Lucky's does a barleywine festival later in the year. It's pretty good. It's also pretty funny watching people who don't know anything about barleywine get wasted!!! (Well, after a while, it's not so funny anymore. )

Finally got my March LA travel details ironed out: I will be in Pasadena from March 5-11, just decompressing from a project I'm finishing up. So I should be able to make it over to Lucky's at least a couple of times during that stretch.

The entire weekends I will be out of town. But I would like to meet you up there sometime for a few cold ones!

Um ... oh, yeah, due to lack interest, this DO is off. But, I guess that's obvious by now.

I, however, will be there with some co-workers for happy hour tonight.

If anyone else is ever interested in holding even a mini-DO there at some point, resurrect this thread or start a new one! The week that BNA_flyer is around might be a good one ... hint, hint (though I may be out of town that weekend).

Weekend? And there's a problem with mid-week drinking?

Looks like I will be coming to Pasadena on a regular basis starting mid-March; my next assignment is at a certain large healthcare organization in the neighborhood.
