The 2007 DC Area Happy Hour Thread

Welcome all to the new 2007 DC Metro Area Happy Hour Thread! Our Happy Hours are not necessarily restricted to just Happy Hours - include lunches, dinners, driving in circles in parking lots and anything else you can dream up and get together a bunch of people for!

Our current scheduled get togethers are as follows

---------------------------------------------------------------

One handy tip: Do go to an ATM and carry cash with you - its always easier to settle a bill if everyone has cash - rather than having 10 credit cards on the table. And we can let the host/hostess (organizer) use a credit card if they prefer :)

MileageAddict for the currently active suggestions - someone's gotta go ahead and organize it - and then it becomes official :)

I was just hoping to put out the suggestions from folks into one place so that no one misses out on a good idea.

Global_Hi_Flyer Dec 28, 2006 3:38 pm

I gotta be in NYC the night of the 9th.

monitor Dec 28, 2006 8:36 pm

I will hate to miss having dinner with friends, but since the time cannot be moved back, I think that I will be better off just having a pickup from a hotel in Crystal City at 8PM and room servicing.

I will just be coming off CDG-PHL-SDF-DCA within 36 hours including a full day's work in Louisville and another staring me in the face in Fairfax County, then back to LGA. Hustling to a DCA rental car and then only having a short time with the dinner party will so detract from the visit that it will be better not to try.

So all have a great time at the Fourth Estate and if anything develops for Jan 28th or 29th, that's our next time around for DC.

MileageAddict Dec 28, 2006 8:40 pm

whlinder, you out there? Are you and the wifey gonna be around for either of those dates?

How about 1/31?

Mrs Skydiver and I, along with 2 (non FT) friends will be in DC from 1/30 to 2/2. We are free for a get-together of any kind at any time on Wed, Jan 31 if anyone is interested (call it the early Feb gathering). We had a great time with some of you in September and would like to try again. Anything works for us in terms of location/format/foods.

Any interest?

MileageAddict Jan 5, 2007 7:01 pm

I'll be freezing my tush off in MSP on 1/31.

Welcome back! I don't know my schedule this far in advance but if I'm around would definitely be interested in meeting somewhere.

skydivers
I'd be up for something on the 31st. Keep us posted. My neighborhood? G'town/Glover Park -- but not great for metro.

I should be able to make something that evening depending on where it will be.

pranu Jan 8, 2007 12:27 pm

Alright folks - looks like 1/31 is gaining some traction - anybody want to pick a place and make it tentative - so I can then update the first post?

If I did that, I would surely be a no show. :D

I normally work in Reston on Wednesdays but that can change at any time. So, I am reluctant to pick a place and then have it turn out that I am working in Fredericksburg that day.

kokonutz Jan 9, 2007 12:00 pm

Heya, kids, I've been sidelined for a bit slammed at work and celebrating some personal milestones and such so I just found out about tonight but already have an obligation. I'll keep a better eye on this thread I PROMISE.

Also, when does the post-Freddie weekend planning committee meet?

New restaurant from the washington flyer email, no idea how it is ... it's in a good location if you need an idea for the next meet.

• Michel Richard of the renowned Citronelle has opened his French-American bistro Central (1001 Pennsylvania Ave., NW; 202/626-0015; www.centralmichelrichard.com). Unlike Citronelle, enjoy straightforward dishes such as lobster burgers, fried chicken and mussels at very modest prices.

Thought I would give this a bump. Anyone want to pick up the ball? If I am left to pick a place it will likely be in Bethesda just inside the beltway as I have to pass that way regardless of where I am working. ;)

I'll be in town on the 31st, as it looks now. I'm in, but not in a position to set a place/time.

It depends on if you are the lobster of the chef:D

We still have 4 people interested in the 31st. We are staying in downtown DC (Hyatt) and the other couple is in Crystal City. We will eat almost anything and as long as we can take public transportation to the location, we are good to go.

I'll be in DC on the 31st. Not yet sure where I'm staying (I'm trying to find a short-term apartment rental for about a 4-5 month period of time, if I can't find anything by then the best rate I can get is down near Woodbridge), but I'll have a car.

I don't see anything on the schedule yet - show me as a probable...

ozstamps Jan 24, 2007 6:56 pm

We will be in DC late Feb, heading to Switzerland, but not the 31st ... have a great time. :D

Can I be really selfish and suggest my neighborhood Cafe Delux -- Cleveland Park. Wisconsin corner of Macomb, NW. Easy parking, on a bus route. http://www.cafedeluxe.com/locations.htm
Or maybe Neisha Thai, at the Tenleytown AU metro on the red line? http://www.neisha.net/neisha.html
tom

pranu Jan 25, 2007 7:53 am

Tom I think you might have just volunteered yourself.

I like the idea of Neisha Thai - its on a metro line - so thats definitely a plus.

Should we lock in Neisha Thai for 1/31?

We won't be in for this dinner, having finished our business and being out of DCA on the 30th, but we had been regular patrons of Neisha Thai in Bailey's for a while. Last time we were there, about six weeks ago, it was under new ownership and not up to prior standards. Whether the same is true in Tenleytown, I do not know.

I'm in for the 31st. I ate at Neisha Thai Tenlytown last summer and thought it was pretty good. That would be my choice.

Neisha Thai

Thai food, on the metro line, an interesting menu and headinclouds personal oakily-doakily. Gets 4 thumbs up from us ^ ^ ^ ^

I wanted to try to make it on the 31st, but unfortunately, I'll be in FSM til the 1st of Feb - supposed to come back on the evening of the 31st, but there's not flights as late as I need to leave! I hate small cities!
