Since I don't live or work in Manhattan, making a 5:30pm happy hour from my workplace in Bayonne, NJ might be tough...if Dinner is involved afterward, I can make that....

Alright - I'm late to the party here and I don't think I'll make it to this since I'll be returning from WAS by train that night at around 9, but what is with all the Heartland Brewery bashing? :p

Sure, it has no gritty NYC feel, but they've got great homemade beers (sometimes one 8% abv beer after work is all you really need) and some really nice appetizers (buffalo chicken spring rolls anyone?)

I'm just sayin'....

Daveland...

I proposed Heartland because of the homemade brews plus the decent menu plus it has a few central locations (one aroudn Times Square, one at Empire State Building I think.) I've gone there with Flyertalkers and had no problems.

Plus MA wanted beer with a side of munchies and I don't really do the bar scene in NYC so sorry I struck out this time with finding the purrfect bar. ;)

Heartland's selling point is the in house made beers. Some of the funky flavors I pass on but they do a pretty good Octobrefest beer.

Maybe one day we should meet for a Heartland brew in NYC. I like to meet Flyertalkers old and new and relatively new.

With so many members there will be so many people with so many suggestions on the best restaurant and the best bar (but there is no such thing as the BEST of anything.)

My favorite S&W brand restaurant is Cite with:

*One of the best bangs for the buck in the country: the wine tasting menu with very very generous pourings.

*Very good entrees and very nice steaks in particular.

*Attentive and friendly service.

*It's Flyertalk tested and given PAWS UP (and famous in Flyertalk history too.)

I"m coming from a cat sitting at Battery Park so I might be a little late for 5:30pm but I'll get there. After all the cats have to come first. :)

MA: You may want to double check your guest list... I think Daveland said he can't get in before 9pm and some are maybes.

OMNI: Dorrian's (OK, I forgot it's Two R's and SOmeone e-mailed me to tell me so) does exist at Newport, Jersey CIty. It's hard to miss. It takes up like a quarter of a block and I've taken a few Flyertalkers there who've enjoyed the food and the hospitality. Here's their website:

Never knew that was a pub, thought it was just one of the restaurants... The pub just threw me off... :o

Chance of being up there just got upped to over 50%. I don't think 5:30 will be do-able though - later will be though. We are looking at either A. LGA at noon, drive to Sleepy Hollow, mid/late afternoon meeting, get car back to JFK, train/taxi into city - OR B. LGA at noon, drive to Sleepy Hollow, drop car at LGA, taxi into city (luggage in tow), then taxi/train to JFK. (Yeah, yeah... both options certainly sound less than fun!)

Was there ever an action plan (I didn't see one posted) - and if its not "on topic", could someone PM me please? I'll be able to confirm by tomorrow night (and if I'm there, Sam - DFW will also be there too). I don't fly out until 10:15 (and its a day off to boot) so I'll be up for some fun on Tuesday night in that case!

MileageAddict Nov 14, 2006 5:22 pm

I have an 8:35pm Mesa flight out of LGA. If it is scheduled to depart on time (yeah right, this is Mesa after all) then I should be leaving the restaurant around.... 7:25...7:30? I won't have luggage to check so I don't know if this is cutting it tight but it sounds about right... I think.

ANyway, I hope you can make it before I have to leave! :)

Thanks!

I guess I should clarify a "late" action plan. I saw the 5:30 pm thing - but yeah, getting there for dinner is highly unlikely.

It looks like the group staying up late on a school night will be SeeYa, Axey, BJ and myself, plus whoever else is interested.

The plan still has yet to be finalized, although I suspect one member of the party might want to head over to Wollensky's Grill. Since Wednesday will be a fairly light day, I'm up for about anything, and would strongly encourage something around Meatpacking by virtue of my location. :)

I'm planning to stay up late on a school night, also.

4 pm meeting on Tuesday is confirmed - that means I'll be there but I'll definitely miss dinner but would love to meet up for later bite/drinks with folks. (Hotel not set yet but I'm sure we'll end up staying in the city as I hate the JFK hotels if not absolutely necessary!)

It will be great to see several familiar friends.

GoingAway Nov 15, 2006 8:34 pm

I booked the 9pm shuttle so I'll stop by at some point.

MA - no one has responded to your comment about leaving for the airport, but IMO, you are leaving way too little time to get to your flight. LGA security is an unknown other than slow and a pain, and the time to get out there can be questionable. This is the beginning of t-giving weekend travel after all.
