Wollensky Grill seems a little bit overpriced for appetizers and drinks.

That's why I suggested Heartland but since Benjamin NYC has taken over this thread I'll leave it to him to organize.

Spiff: I get off work at 3pm and if you want to do something that day PM me. I can get to Newark or we can do something in NYC. Let me know.

Opens door. Peeks in. Makes a suggestion. http://www.pjclarkes.com/

You can actually have a conversation here. Noisy, but bearable. If you order one of their burgers, it will make a lot of posters in this thread happy... http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthrea...ghlight=burger :D

Don't mean to be a budinsky. :p

Thanks Dan, this seems like a good find with a good menu much like the Irish Pub I hang out sometimes in Jersey City: Dorians/

Wonder if PJ's has Wings... :)

I pass thru NYC enroute to LI, so dinner around 7:30ish would probably work well, especially in the venue is near Penn Station.

Spiff... you have a PM :)

Sorry to take this off topic.

PJ Clarkes is as crowded as Woll's Grill but with none of the bar space or ambiance. I find it good - maybe even great - as a burger joint, but horrible as a bar. Another favorite of mine in that general area is Bull & Bear in the back of the W=A, on Lex and 48th.

Making a suggestion is "taking over the thread"?

Wollensky's is the best choice. Far superior to PJ Clark's and similarly priced. In the OP's desired neighborhood. Also, as UAL_Rulez noted, a MUCH better place for bar/appetizers/drinks, etc.

It's a nice simple bar that has pretty good food..Not everything has to be snazzy like bull & bear.

Wollensky's Grill isn't comparable to Bull & Bear. The main Wollensky's restaurant, maybe, but not the Grill. The Grill is almost identically comparable to PJ Clark's or JG Mellon, their most direct competitors. The drinks at Wollensky's grill are as cheap or expensive as you so order, but they do HUGE pours (only three glasses of wine to a bottle). The food is very high quality and very reasonably priced. And if you want something fancy, you can get it from the main restaurant menu. It's vastly superior in every way to PJ Clarks or Heartland Brewery.

Obviously, whatever choice I make is not going to please everyone. Although, I wish for all of you to show up no matter where we end up meeting. I'll make a decision tonight and update the original posting on the first page.

That's great, but the OP is looking for a BAR where he can have some drinks and light appetizers. Wollensky's Grill fits that bill better. If sitting down to a meal, they're probably on equal footing (although Wollensky's Grill is a far superior restaurant), but for a pre-dinner drinks event Wollensky's is the obvious winner. I don't care since I'm probably not even going, but I want the OP to go someplace that (1) actually feels like it's in NYC [so clearly not Heartland Brewery] and (2) has a good BAR [so not PJ Clark's].

I have updated the first posting and chose P.J. Clarke's based on my own research. If this was not the venue you suggested, perhaps we can visit the other locations next time when I have more time.

I hope all of you decide to join me.
