IMHO I think that's going to happen ALOT - remember the IPOD mess? LOTs of people signed up and posted once - only.

tj41 posted in a dif thread that he reads a lot but posts rarely. Maybe now that he's won that will change. I know a lot of lurkers - not all are nuts enough to go to 6K posts like some of us
And it's Xmas season - I'm not going to rain on anyone's parade/resent them for winning. Given there are 80K members, not all post on a regular basis & the choosing is random - odds are more frequent that a non-heavy postwise person will win. Cheers.

Agree that there will be lots of winners with few or no posts. If you look at the average post count across all registered users, I'm sure it's fairly low. Maybe they'll do this next year with some sort of "registration" process, e.g. if you voted in the talkboard elections to narrow the field a little bit and encourage more participation.

Or they could say you need 100 posts or 10 posts in the last 3 mths. So it adds some posting to the criteria but isn't too onorous.
Happy Holidays - ho, ho, ho - hm, where's the eggnog???

For someone with very few posts, I say that we let the people with very few posts win! Of course, I might be baised.
Besides, from a loyalty perspective, the point of the contest is to get people to read the board who might not normally, thus improving the number of impressions and increasing advertising rates. They don't need to get posts with 1,000+ posts to come back with contests, you guys are already addicted.

However, at this point it seems like approximately 50% of the names are people who haven't posted at all . So while that makes the jackpot roll forward, it doesn't seem to do much for loyalty, impressions or advertising rates.
I don't think that there should be a mimimum (ten, 100, vote in elections -- tho' that's an interesting thought), but I do feel that if you haven't posted at all then you shouldn't really be able to win what are becoming substantial prizes.

That's the point I was trying to make. I have no problem with low post count winners, it the no post count winners that I'm commenting about.
The prize now is quite substantial, though it's not likely the person would win the bonuses, however, even without them, it's an awful lot of points to give to someone who has contributed nothing.

I tried looking for this last night and was tired and couldn't find it... How do you see that a person has zero posts? It's not like I can click on their name in a post and see all their posts since they have zero.

Thanks.... only TJ29 and StarAllianceGold have ever posted.... it stands to reason that many more people join FT and don't post than those that join and do post... I guess I'm in the camp that thinks that if you have zero posts, you shouldn't be in the contest.. but then that can make a larger pot for someone to eventually win at the end of the contest.

If the rules were that the only winners were folks who had posted on FT in the past 7 days it would have driven up FT traffic a LOT.
Surely that is the core idea behind this?
