Besides, from a loyalty perspective, the point of the contest is to get people to read the board who might not normally, thus improving the number of impressions and increasing advertising rates. They don't need to get posts with 1,000+ posts to come back with contests, you guys are already addicted.

I don't post as much as many people here, and it took me a while to post at all, so I understand your point of view.
However, at this point it seems like approximately 50% of the names are people who haven't posted
at all . So while that makes the jackpot roll forward, it doesn't seem to do much for loyalty, impressions or advertising rates.
I don't think that there should be a mimimum (ten, 100, vote in elections -- tho' that's an interesting thought), but I
do feel that if you haven't posted at all then you shouldn't really be able to win what are becoming substantial prizes.
