I'll be in MUC to visit my family from Dec 16 thru 29. I'd love to meet up with some FTers. I could imagine taking some of you out for a daytrip to, say, castle Neuschwanstein, or so. Not that many tourists this time of year, but very pretty if it's snowy (and we all hope for that, right?)
I second the Nuernberger Bratwurst Gloeckl for the first meeting, very central location, good sausages, perhaps a bit pricey.
For one of the afternoons on 12/27-29, I would suggest Kloster Andechs, an old monastery with an amazing beer hall, about 25mi soutwest of the city. Well worth the trip, but I'll have to check if they're open through the holidays.

What an opportunity!!
Well, while I certainly cannot gainsay the Augustiner for food and Gemuetlichkeit, this will be an opportunity to introduce you to:
1. A Munich beer that's actually *better* than Augustiner (hard to believe, I know); and
2. A better Nuernbergerwuerstchen place than the Glock'l (better taste, better ambiance, and better prices, plus Holzfass lager on tap!!).
(Sorry, no umlauts on the keyboard here.)

I would love to go to the castle with you if you don't mind the family coming along. This is one place we wanted to visit so I would think this would be great.
If you would like, PM me and we can further discuss a date to do this trip.
Thanks again and I look forward to meeting you.

To get a ü (assuming you're using a standard Latin character set) hold down the Alt key and type "0252"
ß = Alt+0223
ä = Alt+0228
ë = Alt+0235
ď = Alt+0239
ö = Alt+0246
€ = Alt+0128
Ł = Alt+0163
There will be a quiz.

Anyway, the afternoon of the 29th sounds great! My flight to TXL doesn't leave until ~21.20.

Well it sounds like we are all going to get together on the 29th then. Maybe we can place all the names in the first post to see who we have on the list. It sounds like a great party.
Talk with you soon.

Great. Kloster Andechs on 12/29. It's possible to get there by light rail (S-Bahn) plus a 30+ minute walk up a steep hill, but perhaps we can organise a carpool from Munich. I'll have to borrow my mom's car (sounds very underage, I know), but I can transport a few of you. Who else has a car?
Andechs is not a bad place for kids, NCRBILL, even though drinking and eating strange foods are the main activities; at age 10 or so, I used to buy beer for my dad when he could no longer walk due to inebriation.

I think I can rent a car that day to drive the family. I would just need to follow you to the place. That would get us there (since there will be 5 in my car) and the others could ride with you.
Let me know and do we know what time we want to go? It all sounds good to me.
Talk with you all later.

I was just alerted to this thread today in FRA... guess I've been way too sloppy monitoring CommunityBuzz....
Anyways, due to non-availability of seats and/or good fares to South Africa, I will be home without any trips from now until 05 JAN. So I will be glad to spend some quality time with all the nice FTers coming to Munich (again). Count me in for most activities.
With regards to the Andechs trip, I can take up to 4 people with me in my BMW - so we can save ourselves the non-reliable S-Bahn ride out there

If you're talking around noon (or early afternoon) on the 26th, I'll be happy to join for Nürnbergerwürstchen. (And I haven't forgotten that they serve Augustiner there.)

It doesn't look too good at the moment for me now. I'm on a trip to CGN/DUS on the 28th and 29th... But I will see what I can do...
