List updated.

Okay - just got a reminder from cawhite that the dinner plans have changed. Sorry for missing to update that ... it must have gotten lost in my mind somewhere.
There has been talks about getting reconsidering the venue for the second dinner after last year's unfortunate events, so that may be subject to changes. |
Questions about restaurants....
Hey folks, particularly StarG (since I think it was your suggestion), I have a question about Mozaic Restaurant in Ubud. How realistic is the estimate of $50 per person, plus drinks? Is that for the 3-course set menu, the 6-course tasting menu, or a la carte? I ask because no prices appear on the menus on their website. In New York anyway, you can get such a range of prices for fine dining places with set menus. A nice 3-course at one of my favorites (L'Impero) can be as low as $50, but a great 6-course at another of my favorites easily tops $100 without wine (Chanterelle, which ranks as among the best meals I've ever had, and we got the wine), and a 3-course at a highly overrated place can easily slide past $100 before adding the ubiquitous supplements and overpriced bottles of water (Daniel).
What would you estimate the wine pairings would run on the 6-course meal? Would you recommend the indoor tables or the outdoor garden tables? Outdoor looks wonderful. I'm thinking about making a res'y for my birthday dinner. What about Ku de ta? (sp?) That was last year's fine dining place, IIRC. Would you guys recommend it? Do they have a website? Any other places you would recommend? I especially like Mozaic's attempt to blend world haute cuisine with Balinese accents, such as the seared foie gras with Balinese star fruit-- sounds yummy! For those thinking about staying at the Ritz-Carlton, particularly those staying longer than the Do, I would HIGHLY recommend making advance resy's for the dinner on the jetty, which is featured in many photos of the resort. It was fantastic last year for my birthday dinner. Surprising Mr. Megatop with that was probably the most memorable part of our stay. We had the four-course set lobster menu, which started just before sunset on the jetty. No one else was out there except us, save for the excellent waiter and the three musicians playing traditional Balinese music halfway up the jetty. Dinners on the jetty are intended for two or four people, and may be not necessarily restricted to hotel guests (I'm not sure about that). In addition to the lobster set menu, they have two or three others. You can get details by emailing the concierge through their website. Since it's only available for one table per night, making advance resy's is essential. |

I'm not sure there are many, if at all, award seats left on the party flights. Just a guess... but I'm thinking they'd all have been taken by most of the fters here. |

The wine, of course, highly depends on your selection - and frankly I don't know much about wines. Maybe others can comment? Food/wine critic oontiveros perhaps? :D We sat outdoor (garden) last time and I would recommend the same this time. Ku De Ta is still the place to be for watching the sunset. The food is also excellent IMHO, although still not on par with Mozaic in terms of quality. The website for Ku De Ta is at: http://www.kudeta.net/ |

Thanks for the info, Star G. I'm sure we'll book in to Mozaic.

Hi Ho people...
Put me down as a maybe. I'll be in Scotland just the weekend before.. and would just cut short my stay in Europe and come to DPS. Would I be the only party pooper if I am to travel into DPS on CX? Ok.. maybe I will buy a SQ ticket from SIN or BKK... in coach. Sigh... |
Added Guy Betsy to the maybe list as per his PM. Hope he can join us.

I will most likely be flying CX to the DO this year.
StarG, why was the dinner at Mozaic changed to Friday night? Oh pity me, I managed to get a one hour treatment with the master Balian at Ubud Body Works Centre at 11am on Friday...nothing available after that with the master. Oh well, I guess I could force myself to see his apprentice again later. I just dread that long drive to Ubud twice in one day. |
diana, we were trying to accomodate Kiwi Flyer so he can join us on what would be the best dinner in Bali he will ever had. ;)
Since you are there already in the morning, why not relax around Ubud for the day? Now you don't even need two drives to Ubud. |
