Got 30-40 Days to Kill In Nov/Dec?....Read On!!!
Maybe an FTer with major travel savvy, some scheduling flexibility and ability to make fast friends, wants to join forces with me and apply as a team for next installment of http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race_application/
Check out application T/C to see if you meet the criteria necessary.
FYI, I'm deadly serious about this post. Thanks to Randy P. introducing me to a similar opportunity www.globalscavengerhunt.com, I've already gotten a 'warm-up' for the real thing, Amazing Race!
TIME COMMITMENT SUMMARY:
If chosen for semi-finalist interview:
* September TBA date 1 day- fly at your own expense to either LAX, AUS, ORD, LGA, CLT, SFO, MIA, Tallahassee
If chosen for finalist interview:
* October TBA dates up to 12 days- producers py for airfare, ground transport, hotel in LAX, but apparently not meals
If chosen for show:
* 'sometime in or around November TBA dates approx. 30-40 days
*

Wondering what to do with all my spare time since my early retirement. @:-)
After less than a month Jerrie is getting real tired with me hanging around the house day in and day out.
Will explore the links and get back to you.

It sure would be interesting to see a knowledgable FT'er compete in this race. I often wondered if it would give you enough of an edge to win - or if the "unpublished rules" take most of the chance out of it.
I sure wish I could take off time on a whim like that, but I haven't hit the lottery quite yet (maybe tonight?)
Please keep us posted...

or b) somehow made to disappear when it comes to buying tickets, places on standby lists, etc.I'd love to apply and find out how they handle that, though. While I personally hated the Survivor team, I will say that they had a better grasp of the rules and technicalities than others have had. I think FTers could do "amazing" things given a degree of luck.
I wonder about the selection process. Think there has to be a "gimmick" these days to get you on...like, for instance, two rabid travellers who haven't ever met?
(oh, and by the way, the OP has PM, cause I actually could and would take the time off to do this...planning on leaving work in December, a month early wouldn't kill me )

The first thing you do on the race is give up your personal belongings in a bag including wallet and money. I imagine they would take the FF elite cards too.
However, you could still memorize the numbers and they give them to the check-in agent, unless of course you are on a partner airline.
I wonder how the program will work as things keep changing. I.e., you could fly Lufthansa and connect to FlyNet Internet onboard, thus researching all about your destination including maps before you even get there.

I actually will have accrued several weeks of vacation time by then, that I will have to spend or lose....hmm.....the gears are dangerously turning.....
Am also reviewing the downloads (app, t & c's, etc.) and considering. Am noting all the questions on the application form implying some level of personal acquaintance among team-mates. I wonder how other teammates just meeting each other thru the application process handle all those...

Hi Skye1-
Regarding the relationship between teammates, I think there's no shame in saying that we met via Flyertalk, and that some of the teammate questions just aren't applicable...yet!
For example, What is the worst experience you had with your teammate?
ANSWER- Nothing Yet....we're saving our worst experience for when the cameras are rolling.
Or some other pithy, irreverent response.
If you are really interested, fill out the application and send it to me, and I'll send you mine back, to determine if we have the makings of a good fit!!!
I know a number of FTers who know me, if you want to get more of a personal profile on me before trading info!

Color me intrigued. My career situation changed enough recently to give me flexibility to do something like this if I wanted to.
(On the question of the rules, I've actually been frequenting TAR forums for several seasons and have read enough from past contestants to know a good chunk of the unwritten rules... FF status isn't gonna get you incredibly far, for example, because each team has their own producer and cameraman who must travel with the team on their flight. While they are always filmed asking for two tickets, the agents are prepared to understand that this actually means FOUR tickets in that cabin. Also, you can only upgrade if the airline upgrades you - assuming the other two have to be upgraded too.)

I think the producer's of TAR should be intrigued by the concept of a team who's hobby and passion is knowing the in's and out's of travel. I always have wanted to see a flyertalk team!.
With that said, I think TAR like any reality show, is looking to script "characters" into the story. I don't think it's any secret that the teams fit certain scenarios, ie the happy married couple team, long distance relationship team, father/mother, daughter/son team, best friends team...etc.
I think that any FT team would have to have a background of knowing each other, and some kind of bonus storyline between them like long distance budding relationship or something. With that said, if anyone wants to start a budding long distance relationship with me, I would be willing to give this all a try!

I think techgirl and Beaubo sound like a great team! I'm assuming you must have met at a do... Based on both of your posts over the years you both sound knowledgeable, resourcesful, flexible, and lots of fun.
Now here's the big question, what limits are placed on teams in terms of communications and technology? Would you be able to access FT to get help from all of us? I'm guessing not, but wouldn't that be fun???
