Shotgun Wedding!
Once again, proof positive that FT is the most unique online community in the world.................
After posting the initial thread on FT Community, it took merely FOUR days to recruit a fellow FTer that I had never even met before, to apply as my 'partner in crime' on the forthcoming season of 'The Amazing Race'!!!!
In the inimicable style of FT, this is how our whirlwind team pairing process unfolded:
May 16 my original post
May 17 fellow FTer initial response
May 18 flurry of private emails sizing up each others' interest
May 18 1000p confirmation to meet face-to-face tomorrow!
May 19 I fly CLE-BWI, my fellow FTer flies DFW-BWI for 2.5 hr. powwow;
May 20 After pondering our fates for all of 22 hours, we 'unofficially' greenlight the team!!!
May 22 After my wife gets peeled off the ceiling, I OFFICIALLY greenlight the team!!!!!
Already being touted in all the Las Vegas Sportsbooks as a 2:5 frontrunning favorite to win 'The Amazing Race: Season 9'.................

That would actually be season nine, unless we are going to recruit a couple of rugrats to compete in the "family" edition (aka season eight). I may have to skip even watching eight - don't know how much of Rupert they can really expect the viewing public to take (two seasons of Survivor were enough!)
And yes, what beaubo says is true....

Great!!!!!
Having met both of you I feel positive you are going to make an amazing team.
My money is on seeing the two of you crossing the finish line first.

Distressing rumors that The Amazing Race 8 would feature Survivor pirate/teddy bear Rupert Boneham are apparently not true. Although he's a fan of the series, he's not going to pull a Rob and Amber and get a third chance at $1 million. Rupert tells Reality TV Magazine, "No, we won't be doing the Family race. As much as I enjoy the show, I wouldn't put my 5 year old daughter through that." Not that she could participate: the age limit for kids is eight.

Good luck with the application process! I'll be anxiously awaiting the news! I think the fact that you're both FFers and have only met virtually before last week would make you a very interesting team to watch.

Just a quick update on where we are in the process -
The producers will have received our application packet and tape earlier this week.
We taped our video not once, but twice...
The first one was a great professionally shot piece done up in CLE on a sunny Sunday afternoon. It looked great but we realized as we were assembling our packet (less than a week before Steve left for a month in Asia) that it violated a couple of the guidelines - it ran slightly over three minutes in length (instructions in bold said NO MORE THAN THREE MINUTES), it consisted mostly of single shots of us individually on camera - close ups or pans (instructions were that we were to appear on camera together for the video), and while we captured the essense of being a FTer, we neglected to talk much about why we wanted to actually be on the show.
At a critical juncture, we booked Steve a mileage award down to Dallas. In one days time, he (still in CLE) found a local videographer who was willing to shoot at midnight (the only time I had available on my calendar that close to Steve's departure) and I picked him up at the airport at 11 pm after a cram-packed day. Our young videographer set us up in my living room at midnight and shot almost an hour of film - some of which was pre-conceived, but much of which was "we forgot the camera was rolling banter".
In the end, I think we have an application packet (apps, headshots, video, etc.) that reflects the personalities of both of us that you guys who have met us have come to know.
So now we wait... the applications are to be screened in late July/early August and we hope to hear before Labor Day that we have been scheduled for a casting interview in Austin.
(Not sure how much we will be able to share at/beyond that point - all of the pre-reading I've done suggests that before/at the Austin casting interview, we would be asked to sign a nondisclosure/confidentiality agreement - and if that is the case, that will likely be the last you hear from us about TAR until we either don't get picked - or until before the show airs if we are picked!)

What a story! They should select you simply based on the way you both problem solve together...
Are you allowed to post your video (the first one, the second one, or both) to the internet for us to see or does that have to be kept confidential too?
Good luck!

It has to remain confidential as well - but if we don't get picked, I'm sure we can find a way to link them both somewhere.
