I travel for work a lot, but to many FlyerTalkers, I'm undoubtedly a novice. (I haven't been in the game for that long.) Today, when I flew from Providence to Nashville, I wasn't feeling too well to begin with... a somewhat turbulent flight, particularly during the descent, didn't help matters. Now, I feel terrible, but can't really sleep, even though I tried NyQuil. Ugh.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to handle being sick on the road or have any ideas about what to do when you don't feel well at all and want to be home in your own bed (but are stuck at a hotel)?
Or have you been sick on the road and felt like me? Misery loves company and since I can't sleep, I figured I'd ask.

I keep a ZipLoc bag in my carryon with OTC meds - Tylenol, Pepto Bismol tablets, antihistamine/decongestant, Dramamine, etc. A life saver when I need it.

I have been, and it's no fun
I hope you're staying in a hotel with room service, that makes a big difference. Order tea, 7up and dry toast. If you have no room service see if you can bribe someone on the staff to run to the grocery store and get some comfort food for you. Hope you feel better soon.

I thought that Ginger would have a snappier answer than that. I suppose I did not root for Ginger enough to present that advice.
This causes me to wonder: how was Ginger bred?

If you have a sour stomach, Ginger Ale is much better than 7-Up or Sprite.

Hope you're feeling better.
But unless you're organizing a "Sick on the Road" get-together (
), this is really more of a TravelBuzz topic, I would think.

The OP mentioned the turbulence, but nothing beyond that in the way of symptoms. The OP did mention trying NyQuil, but that is for respiratory symptoms. So, my advice is:
1. If it is a gastrointestinal problem, combine the responses from other postings and get some hot tea (decaffeinated if possible), some tepid ginger ale (leave the can or bottle open or pour into a glass and let it sit so the carbonation abates), and toast if you can take it. Alternatively, I have always found some chicken broth with rice from a Chinese restaurant soothing), or dare I say it -- chicken soup from a kosher deli! I would avoid most of the liquid medications that can make you sleepy as they can also make your GI problem worse!
2. If it is a respiratory issue, go for the antihistamine WITH a deconsgestant, so that you get the benefit of somnelence and you can get some rest. I would still go for the tea, and the chicken soup here...
Hope this helps, and feel better!
