I booked the Sheraton Old San Juan in January for a few 1000 SPG miles a night.
Quite a deal, and THAT is in the centre of everything. Worth considering.

You can find quite a few hotels around the Isla Verde Area. The Courtyard is right next to the Airport, has beach access, pool and a Casino. Usually you can find the rates to be in the $150 range. Other hotels in the area can be as cheap as $100, but lack some of the convinences such as beach access.
Also, I picked the Courtyard Marriott because is easy to drive to and have the cheaper parking fees.
If anyone need advice on where to stay or what to do, please PM me.

Right. So, having been poked and prodded by Traveller, and being in a good mood thanks to the cold Guinness and plate of Chinese food in front of me, I'm in!
As usual, I won't actually book my air or hotel probably until September, but it's on my calendar.
Chances are I'll be spending most of my waking hours asleep, and most of my sleeping hours at the casinos and bars
.

Well, my weekend consisted of lying in a hammock, drinking rum, playing blackjack, and doing not-a-hell-of-a-lot. In Puerto Rico.
FWIW, I stayed at the Normandie despite it's not-so-good reviews, and really enjoyed it. I had a junior suite, all of the renovations have been completed for a while now, and the service was great. Free internet on a computer in the lobby, close proximity to things. Unfortunately it was a bit of a walk across the lagoon to the Wyndham to play blackjack, etc... I've always been underwhelmed by the Wyndham's service but it's a nice hotel overall with better amenities.
