Still working on accomodations. Arriving on AA from STL/ORD early Thursday morning, & will take the train up to Firenze either soon thereafer, or following a leisurely few hours visiting Rome (been to Rome before, so not sure how long I'll stay there this time). Will take the train back to Rome either Sunday night or early Monday morning, to catch a noon AA flight back to ORD/STL.
Funny coincidence....in my hotel room tonight, Lawrence KS, flipping channels---the Discovery Channel has a special on how the Duomo in Florence was desgined and built...and a good several segments about Florence in general. Too cool!!!!! |
bumping this up.....have made the modifications on last page (I think) for us all...

Reservations for Uffizi & Accademia
I sent an email to the Hotel Orto dei Medici asking if they could arrange tickets for the museums so that we could avoid the long wait in line. We were able to get two tickets to the Accademia at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, May 6, but the only time during our visit that tickets were available for the Uffizi was the morning of May 11, and unfortunately, that is the morning we depart.
Does anyone have another idea for getting tickets to the Uffizi? If you are staying at the Orto dei Medici, and need tickets, I suggest you send an email right away. |

Taxi fare from FLR to city
I wanted to have enough euro with us for the taxi ride to the hotel, and I sent an email to the Orto dei Medici hotel asking for an approximate cost. They replied 20 -25 euro depending on traffic.
|
You can catch the bus for about 1.5 Euro and it will take you to Centro specifically near Santa Maria Novella, which is the train station.
That sounds about right for a Taxi. |

Regrettably our "art tour" missed the statue of David in favor of lunch at trattoria Pinnochio (look for the knee-high statue by the door, there is no other sign). But later we found Davide, a real, live, absolutely fabulous 30 yr old selling very high quallity leather goods in a very upscale shop on a small steet I could never find again. Wish I could join you, because Davide is 35 now and must be tired of the young chicas and thinking an older woman (moi?) would be more interesante. Whatever. Take Leonard for a gelato or two and enjoy Florence. Wish I could be there. |
Lilli if I see 35 year old Davide I will tell him you said buon giorno. Maybe he likes chocolate......and California ;)
I wish you, your son, and sister were going to be there. We just need to plan more "dos"!! |
