Has anyone decided on a hotel yet?

I just made my flight arrangements - arriving FLR 11:10am Friday, departing 11:15am on Monday.

Hotel Orto dei Medici
 

Dedehans recommended this hotel, and Leonard and I have a reservation for six nights. We check in on Thur., May 5, and depart Wed., May 11. The rate is Eur 180/day....including breakfast. They do not make charges to your credit card in advance.

I would love it if we could have a "headquarters" hotel like we did in VCE. This one looks like it would fit the bill.

Dorlee, I emailed you....Giacomo very happy to have FT headquarters at Hotel Orto dei Medici..... :D I am sure he will be a most gracious "host".

For those of you Firenze FT doers who might be interested in booking at this hotel please contact hotel directly .....still some rooms but he must let them go soon.........see my earlier post with his email to me. I have advised him not to hold these rooms too much longer. Professional courtesy.

It sounds like we would receive a warm welcome from Giacomo, and those of us who stayed at the Hotel Ai Mori in VCE know how special it was to have a personal relationship with the management. Also, it makes for a great meet when a group can stay in the same location.

o2k had a personal relationship with Marco, and he went out of his way to accomodate our FlyerTalk group. Dedehans is arranging the same kind of thing for us with Giacomo, and I would encourage you to make hotel reservations ASAP, as FLR fills us fast now that the season is upon us.

This will be like homecoming....with all the VCE attendees. Where are the o2ks, Cholula & Mrs. and Dovster and the UIG? Maybe if Dovster can't attend, he could just send Bianca. We love her! That woman knows how to shop!!

I decided to use Starpoints at The Westin Excelsior for 4 nights
 

We are going to stay 4 nights (Thursday-Monday) and are using 64K Staroints to book the Catergory 5 Westin Excelsior located at the Piazza Ognissanti, on the banks of the Arno River which is near the Ponte Veccgio, Uffizi Gallery, and Pitti Palace.

Anyone with some banked Starpoints may want to consider this property. It requires 16K / Starpoints per night.

Are you on for this??

Well, I'm still planning on going. Flights to Rome already ticketed, upgrades requested B4 AA's co-pay deadline back in November, so hopefully they'll clear. I am needing to book Trenitalia train tickets for Thursday and Monday, no hurry on that 'tho, from what i hear.

Now, I work in Special Ed., so the Orto Del Medici hotel is a little outta' my league financially for me to snag a room there alone. Splitting a room with one or two or three others might be an option, 'tho.
I am already mentally set that hotels in Florence aren't cheap, and knew that when I bought my plane tix. I just need to find (or share) something a couple notches down on the food chain :D. But, I definitely LOVE the idea of "hotel central" for meeting up, etc....invaluable for "Do" comradery and logistics. I will make sure that whatever I find is closeby, or within walking distance, etc. Am exploring options, checking review sites, etc. Looking forward to meeting several new F/T faces, and putting faces with several F/T chatters. :)

I just received this from the Hotel Orto dei Medici so thse of you who have not deposited and confirmed had best do it right away. I have found the place but am not hanging the staff at this hotel up.....as said previously, professional courtesy. Please follow through...


as regards the GRP in reference, in last 2 months we did not receive any confirmed reservation yet, but Ms. Dorlee.
Since it is high season period and we are receiving many requests for the same dates I was wondering if you are going to confirm the room provisionally reserved for you or if we can cancel them.
Please let us know something within next week.

I will be happy to plan the saturday night FT dinner. Meeting with my friend from hotel I am staying in in Florence here in Florida on 13 March and we will choose an excellent and reasonably priced restaurant.

I do need to know how many may be coming....this DO is pretty vague so far....so far I count :

We will both be in FLR from Thursday night through Monday.

I am celebrating my 50th birthday on May 6th, so a FT dinner on Saturday evening would be fun.
